Growing up in the nearby suburb of Katy, his fascination with the sport ignited in 2004 at a WWE SmackDown event in Houston, witnessing the high-flying styles of Booker T and Rey Mysterio. This spark fueled his dream, leading him to Booker T's Reality of Wrestling School in 2010, laying the foundation for his in-ring training.

Early Wrestling Career

Sammy Guevara's path to wrestling stardom began after graduating from Booker T's school. He wasted no time, making his debut in the respected National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) in 2013. His career took him across borders, competing in a non-televised match for the major Mexican promotion AAA in 2016. In 2017, he appeared on Impact Wrestling's television show and participated in their tournament.

He then made waves in the highly regarded US promotion Pro Wrestling Guerrilla (PWG), even facing their champion. Simultaneously, he began working with another prominent US promotion, Major League Wrestling (MLW). This period showcased Guevara's dedication, as he actively honed his skills across various promotions, paving the way for his future success.

Sammy Guevara in Lucha Libre

Sammy Guevara also found success in Mexico's Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide (AAA) during his pre-AEW career. He appeared on their season four TV show "Lucha Underground" before formally debuting in AAA itself. He even captured the AAA World Cruiserweight Championship during his time there, though he ultimately lost it before moving on to AEW.

All Elite Wrestling

Member of the Inner Circle

In 2019, Sammy Guevara signed with the newly established All Elite Wrestling (AEW). He started with a loss, then had a successful tag-team run, before turning into a villain ("heel") by aligning himself with Chris Jericho and his newly formed Inner Circle faction. Guevara feuded intensely with Darby Allin, while also helping Jericho with his rivalries. Despite participating in major events like Revolution and Double or Nothing, high-profile matches and tournaments often ended in defeat for him during this period.

Sammy Guevara faced significant controversy in 2020 when old comments resurfaced where he made an extremely offensive joke about Sasha Banks. This led to his suspension by AEW. He publicly apologized and participated in sensitivity training, with his pay during the suspension donated to the Women's Center of Jacksonville. Guevara eventually returned to AEW after engaging in open dialogue with Banks to understand the impact of his words.

Feud with The Pinnacle

Following his return from suspension, Sammy Guevara reignited his feud with Matt Hardy. This involved chairshots, table bumps, and escalating violence. The animosity led to a brutal "Broken Rules" match at All Out, which Hardy won despite suffering an injury. After Hardy was mysteriously attacked backstage, Guevara was revealed as the culprit, further intensifying the feud. The final chapter unfolded in an extravagant "The Elite Deletion" match at Hardy's compound. Despite interference from allies, Guevara was ultimately defeated by Hardy, officially ending the rivalry. Additionally, within the Inner Circle, tensions rose between Guevara and the newly-joined MJF, hinting at potential future discord within the faction.

After escalating tensions with MJF, Guevara left the Inner Circle, briefly appearing in talks for Impact Wrestling before returning to AEW. Upon his return, he revealed a recording exposing MJF's manipulation, leading to MJF's expulsion and the formation of a rival faction, The Pinnacle. The two groups clashed, culminating in a brutal Blood and Guts match where Guevara sacrificed himself to save Jericho. Despite this, The Inner Circle ultimately lost and were forced to fight for their survival in a Stadium Stampede match at Double or Nothing. Guevara's performance, including a signature move against Shawn Spears, secured victory for The Inner Circle, keeping the group alive and setting the stage for a "summer of violence" against The Pinnacle. However, Guevara faced a personal setback by losing a match to MJF with outside interference.

AEW TNT Championship Wins

After a string of wins, Sammy Guevara reached a major milestone in his career by capturing the AEW TNT Championship in September 2021. He successfully defended the title once before losing it to Cody Rhodes in December. However, he quickly bounced back, winning the interim TNT Championship in January 2022 and unifying the belts against Cody in a critically acclaimed match. Despite internal conflict within the Inner Circle, Guevara maintained momentum by winning a tag team match at Revolution 2022.

His success continued with a controversial victory over Scorpio Sky, marking his record-tying third TNT Championship reign. However, his reign was short-lived as Sky regained the title just 12 days later, making it the shortest in the championship's history. Guevara's journey continued with mixed results, including a six-person tag team loss at Double or Nothing and sustaining injuries. Overall, 2021 and the first half of 2022 were a period of significant achievement and challenges for Sammy Guevara.

Jericho Appreciation Society

Following a brief injury hiatus, Sammy Guevara's return to AEW in June 2022 was nothing short of dramatic. He betrayed his former Inner Circle comrade, Ortiz, and sided with Chris Jericho and Jake Hager, forming the villainous Jericho Appreciation Society (JAS). This marked a significant shift in his alignment, solidifying his return as a "heel" character.

Guevara's journey with the JAS involved various endeavors. He teamed up with Jericho as "Le Sex Gods," experiencing some tag team success. He actively participated in major events like Blood and Guts, facing off against established names like Eddie Kingston and the Blackpool Combat Club. He also successfully defended and retained the AAA Mixed Tag Team Championship alongside his wife, Tay Melo. However, a planned feud with Kingston was cut short due to a backstage altercation that resulted in Kingston's suspension and a cancelled match. Although he couldn't capture the ROH World Championship at Full Gear, Guevara remains a prominent figure in AEW, showcasing his adaptability and ability to generate strong reactions, both positive and negative, as a performer.

In 2023, Sammy Guevara continued to be a significant figure in AEW, though often on the losing end. He participated in the Face of the Revolution ladder match and the Four Pillars Tournament, with the help of MJF, but ultimately fell short of victory in both. He also unsuccessfully challenged MJF for the AEW World Championship at Double or Nothing. Additionally, his association with the Jericho Appreciation Society became strained, culminating in a walkout by all members due to Jericho's actions.
