Early Life
Tyler Bate was born in the state of Dudley in England. He was born on the 7th of March 1997. While Bate currently works with WWE under his real name only, he has also worked under different names in the past including Arthur Klauser-Saxon and Elephant Mask at ATTACK! Pro Wrestling.
Professional Wrestling Career
Independent Circuit (2014-2019)
Bate made his pro wrestling debut with Preston Wrestling in 2014 under the ring name The Iron Master. He was only 17 at the time he started making moves in the world of squared circle. He worked alongside and against the likes of Rich Swann, Zack Gibson, and Pete Dunne during his time at the promotion. In 2015, Bate joined Chikara Wrestling as a tag team alongside Trent Seven. While still working on the promotion in 2016, he also started making appearances on Progress Wrestling. Bate and Seven were being hailed as two of the most promising pro wrestling talents in the world and it did not take long before they were noticed by WWE, who were looking upon expanding their business to the United Kingdom.
WWE (2016-Present)
WWE announced in late-2016 that it was going to schedule a 16-man tournament to crown its inaugural WWE United Kingdom Champion. It was the 15th of December when they announced that Tyler Bate would also be taking part in the said event. Bate defeated Tucker, Jordan Devlin, and Wolfgang in three rounds to make it into the finals of the tournament where he faced Pete Dunne. After an instant classic match, it was Bate who walked out with the victory and the title. At just 19 years, Bate also became the youngest-ever superstar to hold a singles championship in WWE. Following the victory, Bate signed a contract with WWE and reduced his appearances on the independent circuit.
Tyler Bate would go on to hold the belt for about four months before losing it to Pete Dunne at TakeOver: Chicago. Following the defeat and failing to reclaim the belt, Bate would go on to rebuild his tag team with Trent Seven, now in WWE. The duo was called The Moustache Mountains. In June 2018, The Moustache Mountain defeated The Undisputed Era to win the NXT Tag Team Championship before losing it back the following month. In January 2019, NXT UK announced a new title, the NXT UK Tag Team Championship. Moustache Mountain went to the finals but lost to The Grizzled Young Veterans there.
However, they would eventually go on to win the belts in December 2021 as they defeated Pretty Deadly and became the first-ever team to hold both the NXT and NXT UK Tag Team gold. Seven and Bate lost the titles in June of 2022. Two weeks later, Seven turned on Bate, breaking their tag team.
Bate and Seven went on to collide for the vacant NXT UK Championship in July 2022 in a highly acclaimed match that Bate won. In August, at NXT: Worlds Collide, he faced NXT Champion Bron Breakker in a title unification match, which he lost. This also marked the end of the NXT UK Championship and Bate is officially considered the last superstar to hold the belt alongside being the very first star to do so.
On the November 7, 2023 episode of NXT, he lost to Dijak in a qualifying match for the Men's Iron Survivor Challenge at NXT Deadline. Four weeks later, on December 5, 2023 episode of NXT, he defeated Joe Coffey, Carmelo Hayes and Eddie Thorpe in Last Chance Fatal Four Way match to qualify for the match but failed to win the Iron Survivor Challenge.
Bate's arrival on the main roster was electrifying! He debuted on the January 5th SmackDown as Butch's surprise tag team partner, defeating Pretty Deadly. The victory was even sweeter as Bate officially joined the SmackDown roster afterwards, as confirmed on WWE's Instagram.
Bate and Butch, who returned to his former ring name Pete Dunne, continued their winning ways on the January 19th episode of SmackDown, once again defeating Pretty Deadly. Their success culminated in their official team name being revealed on the February 16th episode of SmackDown: The New Catch Republic! The duo defeated #DIY and earned the right to challenge Damian Priest and Finn Balor at Elimination Chamber 2024 for the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship.
