Formation

At SummerSlam on July 30, 2022, Bayley made a stunning return after a year away due to injury. She did not come alone, however, and appeared alongside Dakota Kai and Iyo Sky (formerly known as Io Shirai), confronting Raw Women's Champion Bianca Belair right after her match with Becky Lynch. This moment marked the birth of their faction, Damage CTRLand established Kai and Sky as heels on the main roster. Interestingly, Kai later revealed that the original plan had been to create a stable with Tegan Nox and Candice LeRae instead.

WWE Women's Tag Team Champions

At Clash at the Castle, Damage CTRL scored a significant victory over Belair, Alexa Bliss, and Asuka, with Bayley pinning Belair. On September 12, Kai and Sky claimed the WWE Women's Tag Team Championship, making history as two of only three women to hold both WWE and NXT Women's Tag Team titles. Despite some ups and downs, including failed title defenses and intense rivalries, especially with Becky Lynch, Damage CTRL remained together. They faced Lynch in various matches, including a WarGames match at Survivor Series. Their journey culminated at WrestleMania 39, where they faced Lynch alongside Lita and Trish Stratus but ultimately came up short in a six-woman tag team match.

Iyo Sky becomes Ms. Money in the Bank

As part of the 2023 WWE Draft, Damage CTRL was moved to the SmackDown brand. On the May 12 episode of SmackDown, Bayley and Dakota Kai faced Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez for the WWE Women's Tag Team Championship but were unable to secure the win. During this match, both Kai and Morgan suffered injuries, with Kai tearing her ACL and Morgan injuring her shoulder. Following this, Morgan and Rodriguez relinquished the titles due to Morgan's injury. On May 29, Bayley and Iyo Sky participated in a fatal four-way tag team match for the vacant title, but Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler emerged victorious. However, on June 9, both Bayley and Sky qualified for the women's Money in the Bank ladder match. At the event, Bayley infamously pushed Sky off the ladder as she attempted to grab the briefcase. Sky later handcuffed Bayley to Becky Lynch, allowing her to win the match.

Iyo Sky becomes the WWE Women's Champion

Sky attempted to cash in her Money in the Bank contract against Asuka on July 8 but was interrupted by Bianca Belair and Charlotte Flair. On August 5 at SummerSlam, Sky successfully cashed in her contract on Belair, winning the WWE Women's Championship for the first time. Following this victory, Kai made her first appearance since her injury to celebrate with Sky and took on a managerial role while recovering from surgery. Sky defended her title successfully against Zelina Vega on August 25 and retained against Asuka on September 22, as well as in a triple threat match against Charlotte Flair and Asuka at Fastlane with Bayley's help.

Kairi Sane & Asuka join Damage CTRL

On November 4, 2023, Kairi Sane made a surprise return to WWE at Crown Jewel, assisting Iyo Sky in retaining the WWE Women's Championship against Bianca Belair. This marked Sane's first appearance since her departure in July 2020. Following her return, Sane officially joined Damage CTRL on the November 10 episode of SmackDown. Later that night, during a six-woman tag match featuring Damage CTRL against Belair, Charlotte Flair, and Asuka, Asuka betrayed her teammates to reunite with Sane and officially joined the faction the following week.

In that same episode, Sky challenged Belair, Flair, Shotzi, and Becky Lynch to a WarGames match at Survivor Series: War Games. At WarGames, Damage CTRL lost the match, with Bayley taking the pin after being put through a table by Lynch. On January 26, 2024, The Kabuki Warriors (Sane and Asuka) defeated Katana Chance and Kayden Carter to become the new WWE Women's Tag Team Champions, marking their second reign as a team and Asuka’s fourth individual reign.

Bayley Expelled

At Royal Rumble the next night, Bayley, Asuka, and Sane participated in the women's Royal Rumble match. While Bayley emerged victorious by last eliminating Liv Morgan, both Asuka and Sane were eliminated by Chance and Carter. On February 2, Asuka and Sane attacked Bayley and expelled her from Damage CTRL. Bayley then declared her intention to challenge Sky for the title at WrestleMania XL. In a twist on February 9, Dakota Kai appeared to side with Bayley but later revealed it was a ruse to help beat down Bayley alongside Sane and Asuka. At WrestleMania Saturday, the Damage CTRL lost to the team of Jade Cargill, Bianca Belair and Naomi while Sky lost her title to Bayley on Night Two.

Damage CTRL after Bayley

During the 2024 WWE Draft, Damage CTRL was moved to Raw. At Backlash France on May 4, Sane and Asuka lost their tag titles to Belair and Cargill after a 99-day reign. It was later revealed that Asuka had been dealing with a knee injury requiring surgery. The faction turned face on July 29 during a feud with Pure Fusion Collective (Shayna Baszler and Zoey Stark). In early August, Kai underwent surgery for another knee injury. On August 19, Sky and Sane teamed up for the first time since 2019 in a title match but were unsuccessful.
