About

UP Warriorz is a women's cricket franchise based in Lucknow, the capital city of Indian state Uttar Pradesh. Capri Global Holdings Pvt. Ltd owns the franchise and the team was bought for INR 757 crores in January 2023.

UP Warriorz is the only other franchise apart from Gujarat Giants to not have connections with the men's IPL. The Lucknow Super Giants in men's IPL is owned by the RPSG group and has no links with UP Warriorz.

Australia wicketkeeper-batter Alyssa Healy will lead the franchise in the WPL 2023. Many youngsters, who were part of the India U19 team's title-winning campaign in South Africa in January, will represent UP Warriorz.

Shweta Sehrawat, Parshavi Chopra and Soppadhandi Yashasri are the uncapped Indian players for UP Warriorz. Star Indian all-rounder Deepti Sharma, who hails from Agra in UP, will play for her local franchise in WPL.

UP Warriorz WPL 2023 Squad - Players to watch out

Alyssa Healy

Healy is an aggressive opener for the Australian women's team and often regarded as a player of big-ticket matches. She also keeps the wickets and perhaps that prompted the UP Warriorz think tank to name her the captain ahead of local talent Deepti Sharma.

Healy has amassed 2471 runs in 122 T20I innings at a strike rate of 127.30

with the help of 14 fifties and a solitary century. She is the second most run-getter for Australia in the shortest format behind her skipper Meg Lanning (3395) as the career of both players have spanned over a decade.

Healy made her captaincy debut for Australia during the five-match T20I series against India in December last year. She was named the captain of Australia in the absence of Lanning. The team won three out of four matches under Healy before sealing the series 4-1.

With 2976 runs in 113 innings at a strike rate of 134.96, Healy is the fifth highest run-scorer in the Women's Big Bash League (WBBL).

Deepti Sharma

The Agra-born player was fortunate to grab the attention of former India cricketer Hemlata Kala at the Eklavya Cricket Stadium in Agra. Little did Deepti know that a direct throw at the stumps would pave the way for her to become India's ace all-rounder in white-ball cricket.

Deepti has amassed 941 runs with the bat in 66 T20I innings at a strike rate of 106.32 with a couple of half-centuries registered under her name. Deepti is the only Indian bowler to bag more than 100 wickets in T20 Internationals in both men and women's cricket.

She registered her career-best bowling figures of 4/10 during the second T20I match against the West Indies in November 2019 in St Lucia.

Deepti has plied her trade in the overseas T20 leagues as she played for London Spirit and Birmingham Phoenix in the first two seasons of Women's Hundred in 2021 and 2022 respectively.

The all-rounder played 13 matches for Sydney Thunder in WBBL 2021. She returned with 211 runs with the bat and 13 wickets with the ball.

Tahila McGrath

The South Australian women's team all-rounder has cemented her position in the Australian national side since making her debut in T20Is in October 2021.

It took her five years to get a place in the T20I team after her international debut was made in 2016 during the fourth One-Day International game against the Proteas women in Coffs Harbour.

The lanky all-rounder bowls right-arm pace and bats mostly at either No.3 or No.4. McGrath has scored 614 runs in 17 T20I innings, with 265 runs coming at No.3 at an average of 66.25. She was unbeaten on 91 in the first T20I of the Women's Ashes against England in Adelaide.

McGrath has played 114 WBBl matches for Adelaide Strikers since 2015. She has scored 1823 runs at a strike rate of 103.63 while picking up 70 wickets at an economy of 7.06.

Shabnim Ismail

South Africa fast bowler Shabnim Ismail is the only player from her country to pick over 100 wickets in T20 Internationals in both men and women's cricket. With 118 scalps in 111 matches, Shabnim is the fifth highest wicket-taker in Women's T20Is.

She is currently ranked third in the ICC Women's bowling rankings for ODIs and 11th in T20Is. She has the reputation of clocking over 120 kph which makes her one of the fastest bowlers in the women's arena. In 2016, Ismail recorded a 128kph delivery, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.

Ismail has played 44 matches for Melbourne Renegades in WBBL across four seasons. She has claimed 38 wickets at an average of 24.71 and economy rate of 6.02.

Anjali Sarvani

Anjali got her breakthrough in professional cricket for Andhra Pradesh women's team. She got the recognition when she picked 20 wickets in seven matches for Andhra Pradesh in the 2019-2020 Senior Women's One Day Trophy.

Anjali bowls left-arm medium pace, which is a rare trait in India and particularly in women's team. The left-arm pacer was the leading wicket-taker in the senior T20 competition.

The 25-year-old earned her maiden India call-up during the T20I series against Australia at home in December last year. She played all five matches of the series and picked three wickets at 55.33.

Anjali could pair up with Shabman Ismail for UP Warriorz and take cue from the South African international's vast experience.
