At 20 years of age, Coco Gauff is one of the biggest tennis superstars and has the potential to become one of the greatest women's tennis players ever. Gauff was born in Delray Beach, Florida, in a sports-loving family on March 13, 2004. Both of her parents were athletes during their college days, and they helped their daughter become one of the best tennis players in the world.
Gauff is ranked No. 3 in singles and No. 25 in doubles (as of November 2024) in the world by WTA. She won her first Grand Slam title at the 2023 US Open at the age of 19, registering a win against Aryna Sabalenka in the final despite losing the first set. With the win, she became the youngest American player to win the US Open since Serena Williams in 1999. Her other Grand Slam achievements include reaching the finals of the 2022 French Open and the semifinals of the 2024 Australian Open.
Gauff has won nine singles titles to date, including the 2024 China Open, where she won against Karolina Muchova in the finals. She also won the 2024 ASB Classic and defeated Elina Svitolina in the final.
With her powerful performance, she secured a spot at the semifinal of the 2024 WTA Finals, registering a win against Iga Swiatek and Jessica Pegula. Win over Swiatek is followed by defeating Sabalenka in the semifinal, thus becoming the youngest player to beat World No. 1 and No. 2 at the WTA Finals since Kim Clijsters in 2002. In the finals, she stunned the gold medalist Qinwen Zheng by recovering from a set deficit and lifting her maiden WTA Finals trophy. By winning, she became the youngest player to win the WTA Finals since Maria Sharapova in 2004.
Besides singles, she is an accomplished doubles player and achieved the career-high ranking of World No. 1 after qualifying for the 2023 WTA Finals. Her accomplishments include winning her maiden Grand Slam title at the 2024 French Open, with Katerina Siniakova winning against Jasmine Paolini and Sara Errani. Gauff was one of the flag bearers for the United States at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics, alongside LeBron James.
