Coco Gauff is an American professional tennis player born on March 13, 2004, in Atlanta, Georgia. Ranked No. 3 (as of November 2024) by the WTA, Gauff has won nine singles titles to date, including the 2023 US Open and the 2024 China Open. After winning her first major at age 19, Gauff became the first American teenager to win the US Open title since Serena Williams in 1999.
At the 2024 China Open, she registered a win against Karolina Muchova in straight sets. Gauff finished semifinalist at the 2024 Italian Open in both singles and doubles with Erin Routliffe. World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka defeated her in the semifinal of the 2024 Wuhan Open.
Gauff storms into the semifinal of the 2024 WTA Finals with her win against Iga Swiatek and Jessica Pegula in the group stage. She overcame World No. 1 Sabalenka in the semifinals and, despite dropping the opening set, defeated Zheng in the final, demonstrating her continued success. With the victory, she became the youngest player to win the WTA Finals since Maria Sharapova in 2004.
The United States Olympic Committee selected her to be the flag-bearer for the country along with LeBron James at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics. She lost in the third round of the Olympics against Donna Vekic.
Gauff came into the limelight at the 2019 Wimbledon, when she defeated seven-time Grand Slam champion Venus Williams in straight sets in the first round. She was 15 years and three months old at that time, making her the youngest player to reach the main draw at Wimbledon by qualifying in the Open Era.
