Meeting at Ohio Valley Wrestling

Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman had first met each other after the former was called to live events while at Ohio Valley Wrestling. In a rare appearance at The Michael Kay Show, Lesnar talked about his first meeting with Heyman.

“I’m German, he’s Jewish, what the…(laughs). It just started (their friendship) – I got called up on the road from Ohio Valley Wrestling. I was a prospect in developmental down there and they brought me to live events and I think Paul Heyman was part – on something to do with the creative team. Paul (had) just seen me sitting, taking it all in the stands one day, and he came up and introduced himself and we just sat down and had a connection.”

Paul Heyman helped bring Brock Lesnar to the Main Roster

Brock Lesnar has revealed more about the friendship between the two in his book 'Death Clutch'. In the book, he further clarified his first meeting with Heyman, thanks to Taz, and how it changed the rest of his life. Lesnar revealed that Heyman accompanied him to a couple of dark matches, and then went to Vince McMahon to advocate for Lesnar's push in the industry.

"[Taz] took me over to meet Paul Heyman. As you know, Paul is writing this book with me, so it's kind of funny talking about him, but this is where we became instant friends. I didn't know Paul from Adam, but he got involved in my next two dark matches. Paul went right to Vince McMahon and went to bat for me. All of a sudden the machine started getting ready for me. I was told I was needed at WrestleMania in Toronto, and I'd be wrestling during the Fan Axxess convention. Next thing I know, Paul is pulling me aside, all excited, and says. 'We're starting on TV the day after Mania,'" wrote Lesnar.

Paul Heyman returned to WWE just for Brock Lesnar

Brock Lesnar had left the WWE in 2004, and a few years later, so did Paul Heyman. The Beast Incarnate made his return to the company in 2012. Having left the company on sore terms, Heyman was not much interested in returning. However, he decided to do so to assist Lesnar as revealed in WWE's My Name is Paul Heyman disc. Lesnar needed a mouthpiece and there was no better man for the job than Heyman.

The two superstars teamed together for various years before Heyman joined the alliance of Roman Reigns in 2020. Since then, Lesnar and Heyman have mostly been on the opposite side. Nonetheless, their real-life friendship is as strong as ever. During his conversation on The Michael Kay Show, Lesnar confirmed that Heyman was still a "dear friend".

"Yeah, I mean, he's a dear friend. I mean, in real life. A backstabbing friend right now. I think we all have somebody like that. It's just developed [their friendship]..." - Brock Lesnar about Paul Heyman
