The Undertaker: A Brief Biography

Mark William Calaway is an American actor and retired professional wrestler signed with WWE. He is best known for his work with WWE as The Undertaker. He is widely regarded as one of the best superstars not only in WWE but in pro wrestling as a whole. The Undertaker's gimmick of a supernatural being is deemed by many to be the best gimmick ever. Having a career spanned over three decades, The Undertaker created a streak at WrestleMania, which is considered the biggest thing to happen in professional wrestling.

Mark William Calaway was born on 24th March, 1965 in Houston Texas. He studied in Waltrip High School. He was interested in playing Basketball and Football. After completing school in 1083, Mark attended Angelina College in Lufkin, Texas and enrolled in Texas Wesleyan University.He dropped out of University to pursue his career in sports.

Mark has been married to Michelle McCool since 2010. The Undertaker has four children, Vincent, Kaia Faith, Gracie and Chasey.

Professional Wrestling Career

Early Years (1987-1990)

In 1987, he began training as a professional wrestler. Later, he made his debut at WCCW against Bruiser Brody. In 1989, he joined WCW as Mean Mark. Calaway spent months teaming up with different wrestlers and failed to make an impact which led him to move to WWF.

WWF/E (1990-Present)

Early Years of The Deadman (1990-1996)

In October, Calaway signed with WWF and began working on his character. Initially, Calaway was supposed to debut as The Gobbledy Gooker, but they scrapped the plans. At Survivor Series, he made his debut at The Undertaker. Taker spent the initial year winning matches by defeating jobbers and enhancement talent. At WrestleMania VII, he defeated Jimmy Snuka.

A year after his debut, The Undertaker won the WWF Championship by defeating Hulk Hogan. However, he lost the title back to Hogan in less than a week. After a few weeks, Taker turned fan favorite when he began feuding with Jake Roberts. At WrestleMania VIII, Taker defeated Roberts. At WrestleMania IX, he defeated Giant Gonzalez.

In 1993, Taker began with Yokozuna, where they exchanged victories over each other. After the feud, Taker took some time off to allow a back injury to heal. In 1994, Ted DiBiase introduced a fake Undertaker at WrestleMania X. Over the coming months, both Taker's feuded and the real Undertaker won. After the feud, Taker spent the year feuding with Yokozuna and The Million Dollar Corporation.

At WrestleMania XI, Taker defeated King Kong Bundy. In 1996, Diesel cost Taker the WWF Championship during his match with Bret Hart. At WrestleMania XII, Taker defeated Diesel. After Mania, Taker began feuding with Mankind. At SummerSlam, Mankind defeated Taker in the first-ever boiler room match. After Bearer's betrayal, Taker defeated Mankind at In Your House.

Attitude Era (1997-2003)

In 1997, Taker began feuding with Sycho Sid. At WrestleMania XIII, Taker won his second WWF Championship from Sid. At SummerSlam, Taker lost the title to Bret Hart. After losing the title, he began feuding with Bearer. At Bad Blood, Kane made his debut and attacked Taker. The feud went on for months and the two faced each other at WrestleMania. At Fully Loaded, Taker and Austin won the WWF Tag Team Championship.

Later, Taker teamed up with Kane and feuded with Austin. By the end of the year, Taker and Bearer formed The Ministry of Darkness. The stable later added Acolytes, The Brood, and Vicesar and joined The Corporation. At Over the Edge, The Undertaker won his third WWF Championship. After losing the title, the alliance between The Corporation and the Ministry of Darkness ended.

By the end of 1999, Taker took some time off to heal his groin injury. In May, Taker changed his appearance and debuted a new character called The American Badass. After returning, Taker feuded with Kane, Triple H, and The Rock. At WrestleMania XVII, Taker defeated Triple H. Later, Kane and Taker won the WWF Tag Team Championship from Edge and Christian. During the Invasion angle, Taker sided with WWF and won.

In 2002, Taker feuded with Ric Flair. At WrestleMania XVIII, Taker defeated Flair. At Judgement Day, Taker defeated Hogan to win the WWE Undisputed Championship. After losing the title, Taker began feuding with Brock Lesnar and lost. In 2003, Taker began feuding with Big Show. At WrestleMania XIX, Taker defeated A-Train and Big Show. Over the rest of the year, The Undertaker feuded with John Cena and Kane.

Ruthless Aggression (2004-2008)

During his feud with Kane, Taker was buried alive and took some time off. In 2004, Taker returned at WrestleMania XX and defeated Kane. After his return, Taker spent the year feuding with Booker T, JBL, and Heidenreich. In 2005, he began feuding with Randy Orton. At WrestleMania XXI, Taker defeated Randy Orton. After Mania, Taker feuded with Muhammad Hassan but they dropped the story due to a real-life incident.

At SummerSlam, Orton defeated Taker. In December, Taker defeated Orton in a Hell in a Cell match to end their feud. In 2006, after losing to Kurt Angle, Mark Henry challenged Taker. At WrestleMania XXII, Taker defeated Henry in a casket match. Over the year, Taker feuded with Mark Henry, The Great Khali, Mr. Kennedy, and MVP. In 2007, Taker won the Royal Rumble match. At WrestleMania XXIII, Taker defeated Batista to win the World Heavyweight Championship.

After having two matches end in a draw, Taker got cashed in by Edge and lost the World Heavyweight Championship. In September, Taker returned and reignited his feud with Batista. At Survivor Series, Edge returned and cost Taker the match. In 2008, Taker won the Elimination Chamber and became the number one contender.

At WrestleMania XXIV, Taker won his second World Heavyweight Championship by defeating Edge. At One Night Stand, Edge defeated Taker in a TLC match. A few months later, Taker returned and faced Edge in a Hell in a Cell match at SummerSlam. Taker spent the rest of the year feuding with Big Show, Jeff Hardy, Vladamir Kozlov, and Triple H.

PG Era (2009-2014)

In 2009, Taker entered the Elimination Chamber and lost to Triple H. At WrestleMania XXV, Taker defeated Shawn Michaels. At SummerSlam, Taker returned after CM Punk defeated Jeff Hardy. In October, Taker won his third World Heavyweight Championship by defeating CM Punk. After months of defending the title, Taker lost the title inside Elimination Chamber. During the match, Shawn Michaels interfered and delivered a Sweet Chin Music. After the PPV, Michaels challenged Taker in a Streak vs Career match.

At WrestleMania XXVI, Taker defeated Michaels. At SummerSlam, Taker returned and attacked Kane, who took him out months ago. The feud with Kane ended when The Nexus buried Taker alive during his match with Kane. In 2011, Taker returned and accepted Triple H's challenge. At WrestleMania XXVII, Taker defeated Triple H in a No Holds Barred match. In 2012, Taker returned and challenged Triple H.

At WrestleMania XXVIII, Taker defeated Triple H in a Hell in a Cell match. In 2013, Taker returned and began feuding with CM Punk. At WrestleMania XXIX, Taker defeated CM Punk. After 2012, Taker made several sporadic appearances on RAW and SmackDown. In 2014, Taker returned and attacked Brock Lesnar by accepting his challenge. At WrestleMania XXX, Lesnar defeated Taker and ended the streak.

Final Years (2015-Present)

A year after losing to Lesnar, Taker returned and defeated Bray Wyatt at WrestleMania 31. At Battleground, Taker returned and attacked Lesnar. At SummerSlam, Taker defeated Lesnar via submission. The final match took place inside a Hell in a Cell where Taker lost. After the match, Wyatt's followers carried Taker away. At Survivor Series, Brothers of Destruction defeated The Wyatt Family.

In 2016, Taker returned and confronted Vince McMahon. At WrestleMania 32, Taker defeated Shane McMahon in a Hell in a Cell match. In 2017, Taker entered the Royal Rumble match and lost. At WrestleMania 33, Taker lost to Roman Reigns. Next year, Taker returned at WrestleMania and defeated John Cena in a few minutes. At Greatest Royal Rumble, Taker defeated Rusev in a Casket match.

Later, he began feuding with Triple H where he lost at Super Show Down. In October, Brothers of Destruction reunited to face DX. At Crown Jewel, DX defeated the Brothers of Destruction. In 2019, Taker returned at Super Show Down and defeated Goldberg. During the match, Taker was injured due to a botched move. At Extreme Rules, Taker and Roman Reigns teamed up and defeated Drew McIntyre and Shane McMahon.

In 2020, Taker returned at Saudi and began feuding with AJ Styles. At Elimination Chamber, Taker interfered between Styles and Black. At WrestleMania 36, Taker defeated AJ Styles in a Bone Yard match. It was Taker's last match for the company. In November, Taker announced his official retirement at Survivor Series. In 2022, Vince McMahon inducted The Undertaker into the WWE Hall of Fame.

Recently WWE has announced a new show in Nashville called 1 deadMAN SHOW. This show will feature Undertaker sharing unheard stories and answer the questions of the audience.
