About Las Vegas Raiders

The Las Vegas Raiders were originally formed as the Oakland Raiders in 1960 and competed as a charter member of the American Football League. The franchise has a rather unique history of relocating between cities. The Oakland Raiders relocated to Los Angeles and played as the Los Angeles Raiders between 1982 and 1994. The team relocated to Oakland again in 1995. In 2017, the NFL Team Owners Association unanimously approved the relocation of the Raiders to Las Vegas. They completed the move in 2020, to be formally recognized as the Las Vegas Raiders. The Raiders became a formidable force after initial years of struggle when head coach Al Davis joined in 1963. Led by iconic owner Al Davis, the Raiders became known for their aggressive and innovative style of play, epitomized by their "Commitment to Excellence" motto. The team's move to Los Angeles in 1982 and subsequent return to Oakland in 1995 added to their complex narrative. Al Davis eventually became the team owner in 1972 and his son Mark Davis took over the ownership in 2011 upon his death. The Raiders enjoyed their most successful stints in the NFL to date, during the 1970s and the 1980s. The team has struggled in recent years to make it to the Playoffs.

The team's iconic silver and black uniforms, along with a passionate fan base known as the; Raider Nation; have contributed to their distinctive identity. The Raiders' journey has been marked by legendary players like quarterback Ken Stabler, wide receiver Fred Biletnikoff, and defensive back Willie Brown. Their aggressive defensive units, known for their hard-hitting style, have also left a lasting impact on the league. According to Forbes, the franchise is valued at around $6.7 billion as of October 2024.

Las Vegas Raiders Next Game

The Las Vegas Raiders entered the 2024 season with a new GM and head coach combo in Tom Telesco and Antonio Pierce respectively. Silver and Black who went 5-4 under Pierce as an Interim HC in 2023, have not been able to replicate the same on-field success to start the 2024 season. The team is 2-4 going into week 7 of the season. After losing the season opener, 10-22 to their divisional rivals Los Angeles Chargers, the Raiders went into M&T Bank Stadium and came out by clinching an upset victory over Baltimore Ravens in week 2. However, since then, Las Vegas has only been able to win one game out of possible three, with their lone victory coming against the Cleveland Browns in week 4. Weeks 5 and 6 have been the same story as previous years with the team taking a loss both away (Denver) and at home against the Steelers. They have already lost both of their divisional games to the Los Angeles Chargers and Denver Broncos by the end of week 6, which has them dead last in their division.

Their schedule doesn't get any easier as their next three opponents are the Los Angeles Rams, Kansas City Chiefs, and Cincinnati Bengals, all of whom made the playoffs in 2023. The Raiders' bye week falls at a strategic mid-season point i.e. week 10. Coming out of BYE week, they will face the Miami Dolphins in Florida before facing back-to-back divisional opponents in the Denver Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs in weeks 12 and 13 respectively. Raiders have three NFC South opponents Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Atlanta Falcons, and New Orleans Saints on their schedule from week 14-17 before concluding the 2024 season at Allegiant Stadium against the Chargers in the first week of January.

Las Vegas Raiders Roster 2023-24

The QB room which is not very strong has seen both Gardner Minshew and Aidan O’Connell start for the Raiders through the first six weeks into the 2024-25 season. After the departure of Josh Jacobs to Green Bay, Zamir White is leading the back of the team. A tight end room now features Michael Mayer and rookie Brock Bowers. The receiving core, even without Hunter Renfrow, is still one of the better groups in the league with 6-time pro bowler Davante Adams leading it from the front while Tre Tucker and Jakobi Meyers round out the top 3 in that position. The team has big expectations from their offensive line unit which consists of guys like Kolton Miller, rookie Powers-Johnson, and Andre James. The bread and butter of Silver and Black reside on their vaunted defense which features a trio of Maxx Crosby, Malcolm Koonce, and Tyree Wilson to form one of the most fearsome edge groups in the league (26 sacks between them in 2023). To add to that, Las Vegas stuffed the interior by signing Christian Wilkins in the offseason. The secondary group which might not be the strength of this defense still has room to grow with a young nucleus that consists of Nate Hobbs, Jack Jones, and Trevon Moehrig.

FAQs

The Las Vegas Raiders have one of the fiercest fan bases in the NFL. The fans are called the Raider Nation. The Oakland Raiders had a working class background at the time of establishment and former team owner Al Davis gave the team a bad boy image, especially through an aggressive style of play in the 1970s and 1980s. Members of the Raider Nation take pride in their image, and many of the most devoted Raiders fans dress up in elaborate costumes on game day. Many of these costumes are intended to be intimidating and eccentric while also adhering to the Raiders' silver and black color scheme.

The current Las Vegas Raiders home stadium is the Allegiant Stadium. It is the home stadium for the Las Vegas Raiders of the National Football League (NFL) and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) Rebels college football team. It is one of the most expensive stadiums in the world, valued at $1.99 billion.

Las Vegas Raiders’ owner, Mark Davis has an approximate net worth of around $2 billion. He inherited the ownership of the team from his father Al Davis, who is one of the greatest Raiders coaches too. Mark Davis is now the principal owner and managing partner of the Raiders.
