About Turkish League 2023-24
1he Super Lig is Turkish football’s premier club competition and is run by the Turkish football federation. 17 teams battle it out to be crowned champions at the end of each season, with each side playing 34 games over the course of a campaign. Established in 1959, as many as 73 clubs have contested in the top tier of Turkish football, but only six have won the title to date: Galatasaray (22), Fenerbahce (19), Besiktas (15), Trabzonspor (6), Bursaspor (1) and İstanbul Basaksehir (1).
Galatasaray are the most decorated team in the history of the Super Lig, having won the competition at staggering 22 times since its inception. However, the 2019-20 Turkish Super Lig season was a new winner in Istanbul Basaksehir, who defied the odds to get their hands on the prized accolade under Okan Buruk.
Several Turkish teams have made their mark domestically as well as in Europe over the years, with Galatasaray winning the UEFA Cup and the UEFA Super Cup in 2000. The 2021-22 Super Liga season promises to be an exciting one and a handful of teams are in the reckoning to get their hands on the title.
