Norwegian golfer Viktor Hovland is a former world No. 1 in amateur golf in 2019, the same year he turned pro. Prior to that, he had won nine amateur titles, including the 2018 U.S. Amateur. He initially played on the Korn Ferry Tour and finished runner-up at the Albertsons Boise Open, through which he earned his PGA Tour card for the next season.

Moving forward, Hovland has won a total of ten professional wins, including six on the PGA Tour and two on the European Tour; further, he was the first Norwegian to win on the PGA and European Tour at the 2020 Puerto Rico Open and 2021 BMW International Open, respectively.

His most recent and biggest win of his five year career was at the 2023 Tour Championship, winning the FedEx Cup. At the championship, he defeated Xander Schauffele for a score of 261, under 27, by five strokes.

He nearly won the 2023 PGA Championship, where he finished tied with Scottie Scheffler for runner-up, both of them were defeated by two strokes by Brooks Koepka. He finished tied for seventh place at the 2023 Masters Tournament, but he missed the cut in the 2024 season.

Viktor Hovland’s Professional Career

After winning the U.S. Amateur in 2019, Viktor Hovland went professional and became the first Norwegian to win on the PGA Tour and the European Tour, respectively, at the 2020 Puerto Rico Open and the 2021 BMW International Open. Back-to-back in 2021 and 2022, he won the Hero World Challenge.

Hovland recorded a course record of 61 in the final round to win the BMW Championship in August 2023 at Olympia Fields Country Club. On his scorecard for the last round, he had twelve threes. The FedEx Cup Playoffs for 2023 began with this event. Next week, he won the Tour Championship as well as the FedEx Cup.

Hovland participated in the 2023 Ryder Cup on the European team in September 2023 and went 3-1-1, including a victory against Collin Morikawa, while the European team prevailed 16.5-11.5.
