So that will be all from this Super Smash game from the Eden Park Outer Oval in Auckland. The action from this T20 league will resume on Friday next, so do not forget to join us then! This is Bidipto saying good bye. Keep following Sportskeeda!
Ken McClure 32 (14) | Will O'Rourke - 2/31 Robert O'Donnell 51 (46) | Matt Gibson - 0/7
As the run chase began, the clouds started to gather over the ground and rain could be expected to be just around the corner. So the idea from the Canterbury openers, was to get as many runs in, as possible. And get runs they did, exactly according to plan!
Ken McClure went after the bowling big time, and in the second over itself, took Danru Ferns to the cleaners, for 23 runs! It followed the first over that went for 6 runs. And the third one went for 6 as well. So after 3 overs, Canterbury were flying at 35 runs, for no loss!
And to make matters worse for Auckland, the fourth one went for 11 runs, meaning that the visitors were 46 without loss, already ahead of what was required, going by the DLS method. Although the fifth over saw only one run scored and a wicket fall, the DLS scenario did not change.
Rain did come down eventually, after 5.3 overs, but by then, a game was constituted and Canterbury were ahead by 14 runs. Finally, after a rather long wait, that was where it all ended with the persistent drizzle playing spoilsport.
This now means that Canterbury have toppled Auckland to go to 5th in the table with 8 points, while the latter stay on 6 points to find themselves bottom of the table at the moment.
Cole McConchie (Canterbury Kings captain): Great to get the win, all be it under these circumstances with the rain affecting play. We were good with the ball I thought, spin came really handy and we did not allow their batting to flourish at any stage so to say. Out young fast bowlers handled the pressure really against a top batting unit like Auckland's. Finally, that whirlwind batting effort was just what we needed with the DLS coming into the picture. This win can now give us the momentum required to get ourselves going and collect more points.
Robert O'Donnell (Auckland Aces captain): Just one of those runs of games right now that we are in, when we are getting done for the rain, losing really close games, tying some! But that is not in our hands completely, we will have to back ourselves to the hilt, and need to get better with our performances. It was not the easiest wicket to bat on, so the partnership I had with Will was effective enough, even if not pretty. We have a solid unit, just about getting one win under the belt and we should be off and running, we believe!
Ken McClure (Game Changer): The captain backed me to go out and play some shots and I did exactly that and gladly, that worked out well for the team. I feel fit now, the injury is thankfully out of the way and hopefully now, I can contribute more to the team's cause.
10:15 AM IST: Due to persistent drizzle, the match has now been officially called off. So, going by the DLS method, Canterbury Kings have won the match by 14 runs.
5.3 Sean Solia to Leo Carter, good length ball on off, tapped with the straight bat off the back foot to short cover, and Carter almost got himself run out by running down the track for a single, only to have to run back to make it back to his crease! No damage done in the end though, but now, rain comes down to halt play! According to the DLS method, Canterbury Kings are ahead at this stage by 14 runs.
5.2 Sean Solia to Leo Carter, good length ball on leg after pitching outside leg, and a miss of the clip to leg, and then, no leg-bye either.
5.1 Sean Solia to Chad Bowes, over the wicket, full on middle, clipped off the pads to deep square-leg from the back foot, for one.
