George Worker: A Brief Biography

George Worker is a cricketer from New Zealand who was born on August 23, 1989 in Palmerston North, New Zealand. Worker is a Left Handed Batsman and a Left Arm Bowler. His usual position of play is in the middle order but at several occasions, he has opened the innings as well.

Background

George made his First Class Debut in 2007 as a member of the Central Districts team. On his debut, he scored 71 runs which made him a reliable player in the eyes of his teammates. He has also been the captain of his home town school team, Palmerston North High School.

Soon after in 2008, George was made the captain of the New Zealand team in the 2008 U19 World Although he did not lead his team to a victory in that tournament, his personal performance went up immediately after.

In the 2010-11 career, he was at his best phase of First Class cricket. He scored a total of 859 runs across various formats to claim a position in the national team.

Debut

George Worker made his international debut on August 9, 2015 against Zimbabwe in a T20I game. His performance was spectacular and he was the top scorer with a score of 62 from 38 balls. He was awarded the man of the match in that game.

Low Points

George has an average of above 35 runs per innings in 7 ODI matches and a great record in the local and club tournaments. Thus, it is very shocking that he has not been able to get a permanent spot in the New Zealand cricket team. Thus, he hasn't showed us the best version of him in international cricket.

Club Career

George Worker is more of a club cricketer and has played in various leagues around the world. His performance in the 2010 ECB40 Tournament was highly appreciated as he was the top scorer of his team twice.

George has also played in the 2016 Ford Trophy in which he was the lead scorer with 659 runs in 10 matches of the tournament.
