The series is level 1-1. Both teams' priorities are kind-of clear now. Pakistan want this to be a solid start to a new era and build momentum but Australia are happy to just see it as a bilateral, which is why Cummins would be resting and focusing on India Tests. Neither point of view is wrong and Australia will be still quite strong at Perth. But the momentum is now firmly with the visitors. For now, it's the pair of Rudransh and Arya signing off for Sportskeeda. Have an excellent rest of your day!
Mohammad Rizwan (Pakistan captain): Big win for us. A win is a win. It gives us confidence, hopefully, by God's grace, we can take it to Perth. We wanted to bowl first and the bowlers really bowled well to use that advantage. Not only Pakistanis but even people outside love his (Rauf)'s bowling!
Pat Cummins (Australia captain): Wasn't one of our best. We've been pretty good of late but this was one of our worst days. I think they bowled well but we could've found better ways to score. You know you are up against it (in the second innings) but there was seam movement around and we could've got some edges and taken some catches but it wasn't to be. I'll leave him to (Inglis), he's a great thinker of the game. I've got a week at home. Some practice on the centre wicket for a week and then travel to Perth a week before. Mind now switches to the red-ball.
Haris Rauf is the Player of the Match: We are so happy to win this game. Yeah Pakistan crowd is there everywhere. I try always to give them happiness. I have played a lot of games for Melbourne Stars so I know the conditions here pretty well.
Saim Ayub: Yeah the most important thing is the team won. We planned to be positive and not to think about result. Most important is how you play as a team. I just tried to stay calm. Whoever is bowling, the ball is just coming out of the hand. It's about watching the ball and playing accordingly. Obviously victory gives you confidence, a series win will be the icing on the cake. The bowling unit came out firing. Credit goes to Haris Rauf and also to the other bowlers who supported him.
End of the match!
Pakistan win by nine wickets (with 141 balls to spare)!
Saim Ayub 82 (71) | Haris Rauf (5/29) Steven Smith 35 (48) | Adam Zampa (1/44)
This is a thrashing of the highest order. Pakistan hadn't won an ODI against Australia in Australia since 2017 and this is one of their best wins, in any format, here. With the ball and bat, they didn't give the hosts any chance, were proactive, confident, dominating and almost unstoppable. Mohammad Rizwan's captaincy has surely started off on a good note and this will give them confidence to build for the Champions Trophy.
Thanks to Rauf and Afridi, the target was well below par in the second innings. What they did with the ball, two-ODI-old Ayub and Shafique did that with the bat. Both were a tad lucky at the start, playing and missing most from Cummins and Hazlewood (Starc was loose) but their defensive work was good enough to help them grow into the game. Then they turned a switch on and started pushing the bowlers out of their lengths.
Cummins changed fields, bowlers, angles and ends but nothing worked. Ayub picked the short square boundaries and Shafique was a superb support on the other end. There was one chance and Zampa dropped Ayub on it. The left-hander went past his first ODI 50 and beyond before eventually holing one out against the leg-spinner. He missed a deserved 100 but the job was done. A laid-back Babar and Shafique finished things off.
Zampa gives him a hit-me ball, as if asking to end his misery! Pakistan win by 9 wickets and level the series 1-1!
26.3 Adam Zampa to Babar Azam, SIX! That's game set and match as Pakistan crush Australia by 9 wickets. A drag down from Zampa, gives Babar enough time to rock back and deposits the pull over the midwicket fence to take Pakistan over the finish line.
This is crazy...
26.2 Adam Zampa to Babar Azam, quicker and flatter trajectory around off, defended from the crease by Babar.
