It was the brilliance of Mohammad Haris with the bat and Wanindu Hasaranga with the ball which has taken the B Love Kandy to Qualifier 2. What a stunning all-round showing from Kandy and the defending champions from the last 3 years has been dethroned. It was a pleasure bringing all the live coverage for this encounter. For now, this is myself (Arya Sekhar Chakraborty) signing off also on behalf of my fellow commentator and good mate Rajarshi Das. Goodnight! Cheers!
Wanindu Hasaranga (B Love Kandy captain): You know, we all know that Jaffna are champions last three years. The players they got this year is great but our boys played very well. We haven't played Dushamantja today because he was injured. Udana also got injured. I believed in myself and had to step up as Mujeeb finished his overs early. Every day I try to stick to my basics and bowl wicket to wicket. Wrong un is my weapon and I back my strength. I think Isuru also out of the tournament I heard like that. We played too many back to back games. We can't play cricket like that. I hope next time, the schedule could be a bit better.
Thisara Perera, Jaffna Kings captain: It was a bad day. We thought we could chase at least 180, but the thing was that it was a bad day. I'm really proud of my team - we did three in a row. I don't think anyone can achieve this. Hopefully, we'll bounce back next year. An extra batter would have been a good option, but we didn't click as a batting unit. I have to thank my franchise owner, he had a lot of trust on us. Sadly, we leave today, hopefully we can bounce back. We don' have any memorable matches or memories this year. We did well as a team, but couldn't quite click on occasions. It happens in cricket, we all have to take wins and losses.
Wanindu Hasaranga has been adjudged the Player Of The Match!
Wanindu Hasaranga gets the Orange Cap for becoming the leading wicket taker in the tournament.
B-Love Kandy won by 61 runs
Mohammad Haris 79(49) | Wanindu Hasaranga 6/9(3.2) Shoaib Malik 31(23) | Nuwan Thushara 4/40(4)
The target looked steep one but the Jaffna Kings took the confidence to the run chase after they bowled superbly in the final few overs. As it turned out, it didn't materialise the way Jaffna would have wanted. B Love Kandy were utterly dominant in all three departments of the game and the deserving team to go through to Qualifier 2. It was a sedate start from the opening duo of Chris Lynn and Charith Asalanka.
The latter was dismissed cheaply by Mujeeb Ur Rahman. Lynn was joined by Gurbaz in the middle and the duo started finding the boundaries. Gurbaz in particular smashed a couple of sixes and a four as he blazed away to 19 before a terrible mix-up with Lynn cost him his wicket. Depsite a loud shout of No from Lynn, Gurbaz went for a non-existent single and had to pay the price.
The introduction of Wanindu Hasaranga totally turned the game on its head with a couple of wickets of Dunith Wellalage and Chris Lynn in his very 1st over. It was the partnership of David Miller and Shoaib Malik that somewhat brought them back into the game with some delightful shots.
A string of boundaries meant that the required rate was under 12 but the wicket of Miller turned out to be the final nail in the coffin. Malik was still out there but they all tapered off in the end. Nuwan Pradeep then got his wicket on one leg and it was Hasaranga who finished the match with back-to-back wickets.
What a lion-hearted performance from Wanindu Hasaranga as B Love Kanyd march towards Qualifier 2 and has given themselves a realistic chance of winning the tournament. It was a tough gig as a batting unit for the Jaffna Kings. It was Hasaranga madness as he finished with unreal figures of 6/9 as the Jaffna Kings were skittled out for 127 in the 18th over.
17.2 Wanindu Hasaranga to Nuwan Thushara, OUT! It's all over! B-Love Kandy march on! Wanindu Hasaranga ends with six wickets to his name! Hasaranga kept this one on a good length outside off, bowled it slightly quicker, Thushara got down on one knee and looked to slog towards deep mid wicket, got a lot of height but not enough distance. Ashen Bandara stationed himself at deep mid wicket and pouched it safely!
Nuwan Thushara c (sub) Ashen Bandara b Wanindu Hasaranga 0 (1b, 0x4, 0x6)
Nuwan Thushara, RHB is the new man in.
That's a brilliant catch from Arachchige and Hasaranga gets his 5th. His first five wicket haul in the IPL.
