Player of the Series: Liton Das - 1 fifty and 1 hundred (223 runs)
After a heartbreaking performance in the first match and a disappointing performance in the second, Afghanistan come back strong to take the third ODI comprehensively by 7 wickets. Rahmanullah Gurbaz was the star of the batting for the visitors, with an unbeaten century to take his team to victory. He was ably supported, first by his opening partner Riaz Hassan and then by his senior partner, Rahmat Shah.
There was a lot of luck to ride on for Gurbaz, as three chances were given away by him, but he made doubly sure to make the most of every life he got and did not settle for anything less than a well-compiled 100, that took his team over the finish line.
Bangladesh needed early wickets to put pressure on the Afghanistan batting, but they were unable to do so, as runs in fours and sixes started to come for both openers. The hosts could not capitalize on the dot ball accumulation of the visitors either, as the pressure got transferred on the bowling instead.
Shakib Al Hasan did manage to get the first wicket after a 50-run partnership for the 1st wicket between the opening batters for Afghanistan and Shoriful Islam too did bend his back and created quite a few chances for his team to get more breakthroughs, but the day was Afghanistan's as the batting found answers to every question asked of it.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz was the pick of the bowlers, returning with figures of 2 wickets for 37 runs, but perhaps his introduction was a bit too late for Bangladesh's liking.
In the 1st innings, it was a superb combined bowling performance from Mohammad Nabi and Rashid Khan that turned the match Afghanistan's way, limiting Bangladesh to under 200 and bowling them out well before the completion of their 50 overs.
Liton Das continued his good form with the bat, scoring yet another 50, but failed to convert it to a 100 this time and got out at just the wrong time for Bangladesh.
So that is all that we have for you from the 3rd and final ODI from the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram, as Afghanistan manage to pull off a very impressive win to head into the T20I series with much needed momentum. It was a pleasure bringing you all the live action today and we hope to have your company in the T20I series as well that looks to be a cracker in waiting! For now, this is the pair of Raghav and Bidipto, saying good bye! Keep following Sportskeeda!
POST-MATCH PRESENTATION
Player of the Match, Rahmanullah Gurbaz: I had an injury in the last game but I was completely fine today, and it is great to get the win under the belt. Every time I get runs, I look to go bigger and so I do not really look to settle for 50s. There was a bit of pressure to begin with in the 2nd innings but Riaz helped me a lot to get me going with his batting.
Player of the Series, Liton Das: I am happy with my performance but I am sad that I could not help my team win today. I wish I could bat deep today. I am thankful though to get the runs in plenty.
Afghanistan captain, Hashmatullah Shahidi: I am proud of the team with its performance today, especially after losing the first 2 matches. I was actually happy with losing the toss. The youngsters are stepping up nicely. And then, Nabi and Rashid changed the match today.
Bangladesh captain, Tamim Iqbal: Very disappointed with the performance today, because we played a brilliant last match. I thought even Liton got out at the wrong time as he was set and had to carry on under pressure. I feel this was the most important game to win. We started well with the bat in the first 20 overs, but then, when the pitch got easier to bat on, we faltered. Then Gurbaz batted extremely well to take his team home.
Afghanistan win quite comfortably by 7 wickets with 9 overs and 5 balls to spare!
