Thanks a lot for joining us- Mohul Bhowmick, Bidipto Datta and Karthik Raj- for this rather lopsided contest in the third ODI of the bilateral series between Bangladesh and Afghanistan. We hope you enjoyed it and are looking forward to the T20 series between the same teams starting on Friday. Until next time, take care and ciao!
Shahidi goes on to collect the series winners' trophy!
Hashmatullah Shahidi, captain of Afghanistan: Thanks be to God that we could win the series. Today was a bit tough for us. This is part of the game, we will learn from it. We were not complacent at all. Bangladesh played very well today and put us under a lot of pressure. My best wishes to the boys who are a part of the T20 series. Thanks a lot to the Afghan fans who came to support us here in Chattogram.
Litton Das, captain of Bangladesh: This win will give us a lot of confidence going into the T20 series. Shoriful and Taskin bowled extremely well with the new ball. The spinners also did very well in the middle overs. All the credit goes to the bowlers. They did not put up too many runs on the board, so we could go about it at our own pace.
Fazalhaq Farooqi has been named the Player of the Tournament! Let's hear what he has to say.
Fazalhaq Farooqi: (On bowling so well regularly) Congratulations to everyone back home and I'm really happy with the preparation we've had in Abu Dhabi for this series! It has reaped rewards. (On what he focuses on mainly) My aim always is to bowl in the right areas and be probing enough right through an innings.
Shoriful Islam has been adjudged the Player of the Match! Here is what he has to say.
Shoriful: (First thoughts) I feel good that after working hard and getting the support, I could produce this performance! (On the help he receives from bowling coach Allan Donald) I do listen a lot to Allan Donald and he does rectify a lot of my mistakes. (On the bowling effort from the entire group) The bowling partnerships with the rest of the seams is working quite well for the team.
It is time for the post-match presentation!
Bangladesh beat Afghanistan by 7 wickets!
Azmatullah Omarzai 56 (71) | Shoriful Islam 4/21 Litton Das 53* (60) | Taskin Ahmed 2/23
As was expected, Bangladesh coasted to a rather comfortable victory over Afghanistan here in the third One Day International at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram.
Although they lost three wickets while chasing 127 runs, they will be pleased with the fact that they finally managed to get a positive result in this series. Afghanistan had already won this series courtesy of their wins in the first two matches.
They will now take the series by a 2-1 margin. Skipper Litton Das will be pleased with his team's efforts today, especially that of his seamers Shoriful Islam and Taskin Ahmed. The spinners Shakib Al Hasan, Taijul Islam and Mehidy Hasan Miraz did well too.
With the bat in hand, Shakib and Das himself had a good partnership going but it came to an end when the former departed. Das, however, remained at the crease and ensured that the job was done taking the assistance of young Towhid Hridoy.
And that should be that! Caps off an excellent comeback by Bangladesh into this series despite losing it 1-2.
23.3 Zia-Ur-Rehman Akbar to Towhid Hridoy, FOUR RUNS TO FINISH THE MATCH! BANGLADSH GET THE CONSOLATION BUT IMPRESSIVE VICTORY! Short on off-stump. Hridoy goes back and makes some room to cut it away through point and cover for a boundary!
