Match ends in a draw; both teams pocket one point each.
Bengal gave it a final shot in the last session and managed to pick up three more wickets with Suraj Jaiswal finishing with a four-fer. But Chhattisgarh managed to ensure the inevitable result of a draw with no clear first innings lead. Ashutosh Singh was dismissed for 88 as he fell shy of a well-deserved hundred. Both teams pick up a solitary point each and Bengal, with just five points from three outings, are in desperate need of a revival in the coming games.
Tea on Day 4 - Chhattisgarh 141/3, trail Bengal by 240 runs in the 1st innings.
Ashutosh Singh (62*) held strong fort for Chhattisgarh as Bengal's bowlers toiled away without much reward in the second session. With Sanjeet Desai also blocking up an end and currently on 17, Chhattisgarh's defiance could well deny Bengal three points on first innings lead.
Lunch on Day 4 - Chhattisgarh 74/2, trail Bengal by 307 runs in the 1st innings.
A steady morning for Chhattisgarh as they played out 22 overs without losing a wicket. The deficit is still a good 307 runs away and chances of usurping Bengal's total look bleak. Is there a 'Bazball' in store though?
Stumps on Day 3 - Chhattisgarh 27/2, trail Bengal by 354 runs in the 1st innings.
Only nine overs were possible on Day 3 at the Eden Gardens and unsurprisingly, Bengal brought the shutters down on their batting innings. Their bowlers made two key inroads to send both the openers back cheaply but they will hope that the light remains good tomorrow as they seek to wrap up the remaining eight wickets quickly in a bid to pocket three points at the very least.
Start of Day 3 delayed due to bad light.
The light has had a say in delaying the start of Day 3 as well in Kolkata. Will this tempt Bengal into a declaration on their current score with time running out to force a result?
Stumps on Day 2 - Bengal 381/8 in the 1st innings.
Play began in the second session and wicket-keeper Abhishek Porel enhanced a burgeoning reputation with a magnificent century (114). Anustup Majumdar scored 71 while the ongoing ninth wicket partnership between Karan Lal (24*) and Suraj Jaiswal (33*) stands at 50, leaving Chhattisgarh frustrated as they have a long way to go now in this game.
Lunch on Day 2 - Bengal 206/4 in the 1st innings.
Inclement weather has forced Lunch to be called for without a ball sent down on Day 2 at the Eden Gardens. Chhattisgarh will hope that the delayed start comes with a sense of frustration for the overnight Bengal batters, leading to quick wickets when the action resumes.
Stumps on Day 1 - Bengal 206/4 in the 1st innings.
Not much play was possible in the final session although Bengal have done well to solidify a decent position in the game. Anustup Majumdar (55*) and Abhishek Porel (47*) will resume their innings tomorrow in a bid to power the hosts along to a total that can then unleash their bowlers and take the challenge to Chhattisgarh.
Tea on Day 1 - Bengal 154/4 in the 1st innings.
Another gritty session of play saw Bengal move to 154 while losing two more wickets along the way. Sudip Kumar Gharami fell one run short of a half-century while Manoj Tiwary managed to score just 15. Anustup Majumdar (36*) is still out there though with wicket-keeper Abhishek Porel (15*) giving him company.
Lunch on Day 1 - Bengal 80/2 in the 1st innings.
It was an even morning session at the Eden Gardens after Chhattisgarh opted to bowl first. Opener Shreyansh Ghosh took 111 deliveries to score 22, blunting the new ball as much as he could before he was nipped in the bud. The experienced Anustup Majumdar (4*) has joined Sudip Kumar Gharami (41*) in the middle and with skipper Manoj Tiwary to follow, Bengal will look to make the visitors rue their decision at the toss.
