Right then. It's another double header day here in the LPL and this is second and the final game of the day as Kandy Falcons go up against Jaffna Kings. Jaffna Kings have started their title defense in a brilliant way by winning both the games and the same goes with Kandy Falcons whose campaign has kicked off on a dream fashion.
Kandy Falcons, the team that struggled last season is putting out a statement that they mean business right from the word go. They beat Colombo Stars in their opening game by a whopping 109 runs and then in the last game they beat Galle Gladiators quite convincingly by 5 wickets with 30 balls to spare.
Two thumpings win mean, they now will start as favourites in pretty much all the game they play from here on, the confidence if there and the team has started off well here. Notable performances from both the games. In the first game, Andre Fletcher scored a brilliant hundred and to top it off, their skipper Wanindu Hasaranga picked up the first ever LPL hat-trick as well to seal the game.
In the second one, it was Brathwaite's show with the ball, four wickets for just 14 runs meant the Gladiators were always catching up. Kamindu Mendis lead the chase brilliantly and then finished it off with plenty of overs to spare.
Talking about Jaffna Kings, they've had two clinical victories too and the only team that look dangerous to beat Kandy Falcons at the moment. In the first game they beat Gladiators in a close game as Dunith Wellalage put up an all-round show to seal the game.
In their second game, they rattled Dambulla Aura to 121 in the end, thanks to Maheesh Theekshana and Vijayakanth Viyaskanth who picked up three wickets a piece among themselves. It was a one way traffic from there on, Sadeera Samarawickrama and Avishka Fernando put up a brilliant 118 run partnership and then eventually winning the game by 9 wickets and plenty of overs to spare.
It's the clash of the titans what we can call it as it's the top of the table clash. It's very hard to seperate these two teams right now but going by the impact of those wins, it's Kandy Falcons who are riding high on those two great wins but Jaffna Kings have the resources to stop Kandy Falcons or can they? Will soon find out!
