Commentary

That's it then. South Africa become the latest victim of India's home dominance. It was an absorbing Test, perhaps made more so by the slow and low track which kept everyone interested while also rewarding the batters for being set. India have so many positives, but would especially take home Shafali's excellent knock and Sneh Rana's 10-fer. South Africa's performance was this competitive despite hardly playing this format in ages which tells you a lot about their character. They would feel that if their were a couple more Tests and this was a series, they'd have at least managed to salvage a draw here. So, repeat after us: We. Want. More. Women's. Tests! It's the pair of Rudransh and Bidipto signing off for Sportskeeda. Ciao!

Harmanpreet Kaur (India captain): It wasn't easy. They really batted well. They didn't give us an easy win. Credit to Smriti and Shafali for the start. Everyone in the team contributed really well with the bat. It wasn't easy to field in this heat but everyone did really well. The bowlers kept bowling and pushing. The bowlers earned the trust that they can keep bowling. Even our medium pacers did the job well. Even our support staff pushed us in every break. They created that energy. I was a bit greedy and I kept on giving them (the three spinners) the ball and in between we shared the responsibility. We told the bowling unit that we can't give them easy boundaries but at the same time we kept looking for wickets. Credit to everyone in the team.

Sneh Rana is the Player of the Match, let's hear from her: It's a great feeling. Contributing to the team in such an occasion... it's difficult to describe that feeling. The body if feeling quite fresh (laughs)! It was difficult at the start for spinners because there was not a lot of turn in the track. Credit to the South African batters for batting so well but hat's off to our Indian bowlers. Playing Tests is special itself but back-to-back Player of the Match performances make me very happy. You said people think playing off-spin is easy, hopefully they have got their answers.

Laura Wolvaardt (South Africa captain): I think the character shown by the group throughout the four days was brilliant, it wasn't easy, but the effort put in was really good! There are lots of areas where we can improve on, but from where we were, to get to this stage is special. We are learning with experience, the batters batted pretty nicely in this game. But we should have restricted them to a lower score on Day 1. Anyway, I was hoping that we will see it out but well, not to be today!

Dillon du Preez, South Africa Women coach: I think the task got tougher in the 3rd session on Day 1, but we pulled it back from there somewhat. The bowling let us down a bit but the batting was better. We have to get better as we go along. Bit disappointed with yesterday morning that we lost a wicket too many up front but still, we gave it our all.

Amol Muzumder, India Women coach: I think this Test win for India was a real test of character, compared to the other two we played earlier on. Following on did challenge the fitness of the players, but we knew that this surface was on the slower side, so, even if the batting from the South Africans was good, which it was, we could still chase it down. But we were properly tested! We couldn't pick up any wicket in the second session on Day 3, Sune Luus and Laura Wolvaardt did really well but out bowlers put up a wonderful show after that, even the ones who carried drinks actually, it was hard-fought!

Shafali Verma: I wanted to back my strengths and spend some time at the crease. I backed my strengths here. It's all in the mind I think, all that matters is how one feels in this format. I wanted to attack of course, but held myself back a bit. Fitness definitely gets tested in a Test match, it was quite humid here, but then, that's the beauty of this format I guess! Whoever bowls twice gets 20 wickets!

INDIA WIN BY 10 WICKETS!

England. Australia. South Africa. You come to these shores, against this team led by Harmanpreet Kaur, you won't go with anything but a big fat L. That's the lesson South Africa have learned here, though they have given India a lesson or two of their own by putting up an excellent fight and offering some moments of real courage.

But this -- the eighth Test win for India women -- is special for so many reasons. They put up over 600 runs with a double hundred from Verma and *declared* only to bowl South Africa out for almost a third of that total thanks to a an all-timer eight-wicket haul from Sneh Rana.

They had the choice -- go the easy way and bat again, or go the hard way and bowl another day with tired legs. They went the hard way. And South Africa pounced to avoid the embarrassment of an innings defeat. Wolvaardt and Luus put up magnificent centuries and pushed Indian bowlers to their limits.

However, once they took their wickets, through Gayakwad and Kaur, wickets started coming. de Klerk played a brilliant cameo later on on the slow and low track to make sure India batted again. However, Verma and Satheesh' professional display meant there were no hiccups and India finished things off with ease.

9.2 Delmi Tucker to Shubha Sateesh, AND THAT WILL BE THREE TEST WINS IN A ROW FOR INDIA WOMEN! Length ball around off-stump that turns away. Shubha does not get the shot out confidently through the line, but gets a deflection of the bat face past slip for a couple of runs down to third man to pick up victory!
