Commentary

It is a big cricket day across the globe tomorrow. We shall rest till then. This is Dwaipayan Mukherjee, signing off with my co-commentator Rajarshi Das.

We had plenty of exciting cricket today, some brilliant individual performances as well. Tomorrow we will have Pretoria Capitals taking on the defending champions - Sunrisers Eastern Cape, catch us for that one! We will be bringing you all the action.

Reeza Hendricks, Player of the Match : They bowled really well, the wicket was stopping a bit and the innings of Moeen at the end also helped me to get going. I thought 150 would have been par, but the wicket got better and in the second innings it came on a lot better.

Jos Buttler, Paarl Royals captain : Really happy. The wicket played quite tricky, there is not much margin for error. Both innings went the same way in terms of how it panned out. Lubbe showed great character and great maturity and Vilas showed great energy in the end. The clarity with the ball is important, the coaches have given simple plans to which the guys are sticking to. We are not worried about our position at the minute, the games keep coming thick and fast and we can hopefully ride on this momentum.

Faf du Plessis, Joburg Super Kings captain: Batting first, we felt like it was a par score. It was a difficult deck to score runs. As the game progressed, you could see the ball skidding on a little bit more, was a little bit easier to bat towards the end. 10-15 more runs would have helped us. They batted well in that middle period, but we gave a few too many soft runs at that stage. Probably the difference. It's almost like a game of two halves. The first innings you think 140-150 is a competitive total, and then in the second innings you see the ball stopped gripping a little bit. We felt 160 was going to be par. We saw someone like Reeza not time it well early, started timing it better towards the last three overs or so. Skidded a bit more on. You need to do the small things right, stop those soft runs, make sure you compete in all departments in a close game as this one. We clawed our way back with the bat in the latter stages today. Would have been interesting to see some of our big boys such as Donavon Ferreira at the back end. For me, it's just making sure we do the small things better. One or two half chances, soft overthrows, you count all of those, it's over 20 runs.

As Mark Nicholas puts it on-air, "it has been a quirky night, with some unusual things happening". We were always on the edge of our seats throughout that chase. Fabian Allen did not wait for the ball to reach the stands before he raised his arms aloft because he knew he had connected with that one pretty well.

They have won another last over thriller - with the other one coming in SuperSport Park. This win takes Paarl Royals to 22 points which virtually seals their spot in the qualifications scenario for the knock-outs.

It was not always hunky dory for the men in pink. Their regular stars in Roy and Buttler did not run away with the game at the start. Burger bowled with great pace, it was entertaining stuff, he was seaming the ball around, very unfortunate that he returns home without any wickets.

At 55/3 after 9 overs, the chances looked brighter for the home side with 2 batters who did not do an awful lot for the Royals. It was really pleasing to see new heroes in Dane Vilas and Wihan Lubbe step up to the occasion. The latter struggled initially but then took control after the strategy break.

The duo put them in a strong position to win the match, stitching a 95 run stand in less than nine overs. It was fine work by the table toppers who have strengthened their grip at the pole position. 19.1 Andile Phehlukwayo to Fabian Allen, SIX! No-nonsense finish - Fabian Allen gets it done with five balls to spare! Truth be told, this was a slot delivery, full, just outside off stump. Allen had a swing through the line, met it right, and the ball sailed over the long off boundary! Oh. and by the way, Phehlukwayo overstepped as well!
