Sydney Sixers Women won by 3 wickets (with an over to spare)
Ellyse Perry 81(38) | Ellyse Perry 2/25(4) Georgia Wareham 61(31) | Georgia Wareham 3/26
Powered by a stunning knock from captain Ellyse Perry, the Sydney Sixers Women chased down the stuff target of 179 to begin their WBBL campaign with a win. Out came Perry and Hollie Armitage to open the innings and it was an exceptional shot from both openers.
The target looked a bit too stiff but when these two were going great guns, it looked like the Sixers had the chance of chasing it down. Armitage went onto score 30 off 23 deliveries which included six fours. Ashleigh Gardner was also dismissed in the same over but the Sixers were reduced to 82/2.
Perry smashed three lusty blows during her knock and continued to just flow in the innings. It was extraordinary timing from the stylish right hander and the ball literally flew from her bat today. It was Georgia Wareham who turned the game around in the 13th over, bagging the wicket of Ellyse Perry and Peterson.
Sarah Bryce at the other end continued the good work and remained unbeaten on 36 off 25 deliveries. Perry’s knock of 81 runs came to an end at a crucial juncture of the game but she had laid the platform. Five wickets feel in a matter of 25 deliveries and india will be hoping enjoy himself much more in the next game. It was Caoimhe Bray who struck a brilliant inside out shot to finish the match off with a boundary with an over left.
Ellyse Perry (Player of the Match): For a 15 year-old to hit the ball over extra cover, that was special. She's a very good talent. Nice to get home, everyone's excited. The competition between the two sides was really good. Wareham was exceptional. We got off to a reasonable start. Bryce was so calm and composed in the end. It was a team performance, even with the ball. Renegades played really well, unlucky to lose. That's the beauty of the competition. It offers opportunity to a lot of youngsters and local stars.
