Thanks a lot for joining us- Mohul Bhowmick, Pradeep, Arya Sekhar Chakraborty and Probuddha- for the live coverage of the second ODI between New Zealand and Bangladesh from Nelson. We had a gala of a time reporting it and we hope that you did while watching it as well. Until next time, take care and goodbye!
Soumya Sarkar is the Player of the Match! Here's what he has to say: Happy with my effort with the bat, but this hundred had it come in the winning cause, I would've been more happier. Our main batters got out at the wrong time, we would've placed well if not for that, would've posted a big total. We're trying in the nets, practice hard and myself coming back after a long time, I work hard on my game. Pull shots was my favorite shot of the day.
New Zealand beat Bangladesh by 7 wickets!
Soumya Sarkar 169 (151) | William O'Rourke 3-47 Henry Nicholls 95 (99) | Jacob Duffy 3-51
New Zealand got off to a fantastic start thanks to their openers Will Young and Rachin Ravindra. Both of these players came out with the intention to chase these runs down as quickly as possible.
Although Ravindra got out short of his half-century trying to play a pull shot that landed just short of the fence, Young carried on with Henry Nicholls, who came in at number three.
Both these batsmen put up a stellar partnership and it was broken only when Young got out eleven runs short of his century. Tom Latham, who came in at number four, combined with Nicholls to put up another big partnership.
It seemed as if none of the Kiwi batsmen were destined to score a century today; Nicholls fell five runs short of his as well. It was left to skipper Latham and wicket-keeper batsman Tom Blundell to chase the remaining runs down for the Blackcaps.
Bangladesh did not bowl too badly; in fact, their spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz had a commendable economy rate of 4.50. However, their seamers were taken to the cleaners by the hosts, and this is something that they will be looking to improve upon.
The pitch was an absolute belter, yes, but the visitors need to find a way to adjust and bowl in the right areas. Soumya Sarkar's valiant 161 in the first innings went in vain.
Blundell seals the deal for the Kiwis with a massive hit over long on!
46.2 Rishad Hossain to Tom Blundell, SIX! BLUNDELL FINISHES THINGS IN STYLE! New Zealand coasted to 292 with plenty of overs to spare, that was a thumping win to seal the series here. Length delivery on the off-stump, Blundell saw the opportunity and went for it, sits on one knee and pounded it way over long-on for a huge maximum.
46.1 Rishad Hossain to Tom Latham, length delivery on the stumps, Latham leans and nudged it down to long-on for another single. Just 2 needed now!
Blundell looked to finish this game with the couple of pull shots he played in this over, but it was not to be. The game will get dragged on to another over.
