We are sorry to see this game peter out in this way. It also renders some pondering as to how I, Mohul Bhowmick, seemed to have picked up the uncanny habit of becoming a part of four washed out encounters in the recent past. While I delve deep and question destiny, I bid you goodbye also on behalf of my partner Karthik Raj. We will meet again, dear viewer, and hopefully, on a sunnier day. Stay tuned to Sportskeeda!
Update 7:40 AM IST: Oh no! The inevitable has happened. The outfield has simply refused to dry up despite the groundstaff trying their best to do so. This match has been abandoned without a ball being bowled. Both these teams walk away with two points apiece after this non-event.
Update 7:20 AM IST: No definitive news yet. The cutoff time is 3:50 PM local time, which translates to 8:20 AM Indian Standard Time, but the umpires are expected to come to a decision soon.
Update 7 AM IST: The covers have completely come off and the sun is out! But the outfield remains extremely, extremely wet.An inspection has been scheduled at 7:15 AM Indian Standard Time after which the umpires will be able to give us a better idea of how they intend to take this forward.
Update 6:35 AM IST: Bad news, folks! Unfortunately, there has been a slight drizzle here. Though it has stopped now, the outfield appears to have become heavier than it was. The umpires will take a call soon.
Update 6:15 AM IST: The news is half good-half bad. There is no drizzle here at the moment, but the covers are very heavy with all the rain that has accumulated over the last few hours. The covers around the square have been removed carefully by the groundtstaff, making sure that no water gets spilled over onto the pitch. The decision now rests with the umpires to take a call in another ten minutes or so as to how they want to proceed with this.
Update 6 AM IST: The ground is very wet and heavy owing to the constant rain that it has been subjected to over the last few hours. As a matter of fact, the Northern Blaze and Wellington Brave match in the women's competition was called off earlier in the day owing to adverse weather conditions. Thunderstorms are on the radar in Hamilton today, but this game has not been abandoned just yet. The groundstaff are trying their best.
Update 5:45 AM IST: The toss has been delayed here at Seddon Park due to wet outfield. There is no rain here at the moment, but the covers are still on. The groundstaff are doing everything possible for a quick start.
Hello and welcome to our live coverage of the 24th match of the Central Smash T20 competition between the Northern Brave and Wellington Firebirds from the Seddon Park in Hamilton, New Zealand! Taking you through this ride will be your commentator duo of Mohul Bhowmick and Karthik Raj.
The home team, the Brave, previously known as the Knights, come into this game standing in the fifth position of the league table at the time of writing whereas the visiting side, the Firebirds are perched upon the fourth position of the same standings. The Northern Brave have 14 points to their name and the Wellington Firebirds have the same. They are separated merely by their net run rate. This game between the two here on Saturday will ensure which of them will go ahead and stand at a better position by the end of the evening.
While the Northern Brave are led by Jeet Raval, the Wellington Firebirds are skippered by leg spinner Peter Younghusband. The Brave have a lot of top stars in their lineup and they will be challenged thoroughly by the Firebirds, who have a terrific bowling attack helmed by Rachin Ravindra, Adam Milne, Michael Snedden and Logan van Beek. This will be a good game between these two teams, and we can expect a full-fledged game filled with thrills and spills all the way.
So stay tuned for news of the toss and lineups to come your way soon!
