Tim Seifert: A Brief Biography
Tim Seifert is an aggressive New Zealand batsman who likes to play the shorter formats more than the longer ones. He shot to fame when he scored the fastest T20 century in New Zealand domestic cricket for Northern Districts.
Career
Domestic career
Tim Seifert made his T20 debut as a 19-year-old for the Northern District side in the Georgie Pie Super Smash tournament in November 2014. He scored a duck on debut but made amends with consistent performances in the coming years. He has over 2200 runs in 102 batting innings at an average of 25.77 and a strike rate just above 130. He has the fastest T20 century (40 balls) in Kiwi cricket against Auckland.
A month later, Seifert made his First Class debut in the Plunket Shield and scored 49 in the only innings he batted. In and out of the Northern Districts side, the 26-year-old has played just 51 multi-day games and scored close to 3000 runs at an average of 36.40. He has 6 centuries to his name. His most notable performances in the format was when he ended up as the highest run-getter of the Plunket Shield in 2017-18.
His List A debut also came in December 2014 in the Ford Trophy. Otago bundled out the Districts side for just 113 after scoring 335 in the first innings. Seifert’s career in the format has never seemed bright with the bat as he averages just 23.82 with 810 runs in 38 matches.
International career
On the back of his performances in the shortest version of the game, he was handed a national cap in a T20I against England in February 2018. Seifert was one of those wicketkeepers who were auditioning for a spot in the New Zealand XI on a long time basis. Unfortunately, he couldn’t keep up with the scoring on a consistent basis but his work behind the stumps seems to find him a place in the team.
Seifert made his ODI debut against Sri Lanka in January 2019, which came as a surprise because of his below-par List A performances.
IPL career
Tim Seifert came in as an injury replacement for Ali Khan representing the Kolkata Knight Riders Team in IPL 2020. He did not get to feature in any of the games in the season.Hope to see him play in IPL 2021 in KKR Jersey.
Background
The wicketkeeper-batsman was born in Wanganui and has represented New Zealand U19 in the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup in 2014 held in the UAE. He decided to quit hockey and continue playing cricket around this World Cup. Being an aggressive batsman, he has always been looked at as a finisher. As a keeper-batsman, Seifert idolises his former national skipper Brendon McCullum and the legendary AB de Villiers.
