That would be all from this game where we saw the Mumbai stalwarts put up an exhibition earlier in the day. This is Dwaipayan Mukherjee, signing off with my hard working co-commentator Pradeep. See you all soon!
Shivam Dube is the Player of the Match!
Mumbai (192 for 4) defeat Services (153 all out) by 39 runs
A comprehensive win for Mumbai. It was always going to be a challenging affair for the Services when you think about how the chase began for them.
Shardul Thakur ensured a successful start for Mumbai with a wicket in the first over of the chase. Things got better for the right arm seamer as he struck again in the first ball of his 2nd over. Services endured a top order collapse when Thakur inflicted his third victim even before Mumbai completed 3 overs in the innings.
As if 3 quick wickets were not enough to derail the chase for Services, Thakur cleaned up Kochar in the last ball of his 3rd over in his opening spell, leaving the opposition reeling at 34 for 4. Things became largely simple for the spinners in terms of their plans through the middle overs. They had to focus on keeping it simple, tie down all scoring options - forcing the Services to take those extra risks.
No boundaries for 19 balls between 5th and 8th over. But Services responded to the drought of runs with a couple of sixes and a boundary in 3 consecutive balls, across 2 overs. Captain Mohit Ahlawat stitched together a half century stand with Vikas Hathwala but the required run rate always kept soaring at a brisk rate.
Another boundary drought of 3 overs between 9th to 12th over resulted in Ahlawat compelled to increase the pace of the chase, but the quest also led to his demise. It was a let-off by Dube since he overstepped, giving Ahlawat a reprieve. The free hit was dispatched to the stands by the Services skipper. The team's century milestone coincided with Ahlawat's half century achievement as he put up a strong resistance to the Mumbai bowling group.
It was intelligent cricket by Ahlawat. He used the depth of the crease, understood his importance to not overcommit his attacking approach, putting high value to his wicket. The 74 runs stand for the 5th wicket was broken by Avasthi, who was rather expensive in his opening spell. But when Ahlawat departed soon afterwards, the writing was on the wall.
Poonam Poonia delayed the inevitable with some lusty blows to ruin Shardul Thakur's figures when he returned at the death but Mumbai were clearly the better team today.
19.3 Mohit Avasthi to Vishal Gaur, A miscommunication leading to the run-out! Avasthi gave some chin music to Gaur, he got rattled by the pace as the ball made contact with the helmet. Till the time Gaur understood that he was called for a single, Mumbai were astute enough to effect the run out to close out the match - MUMBAI WIN BY 39 RUNS!
19.2 Mohit Avasthi to Vishal Gaur, length ball, defended right below the eyes, no run!
19.1 Mohit Avasthi to Amit Shukla, outside off stump and Shukla hits it in the air but it lands safely. A single taken.

18.6 Shivam Dube to Poonam Poonia, DUBE GETS POONIA TRAPPED IN FRONT OF THE WICKETS! Dube sticks to his plan of slow bowling, Poonia misses the line of the ball and it was as plumb as it could get with the batter leaving even before the umpire raised his finger.
18.5 Shivam Dube to Poonam Poonia, this is wonderful bowling. Absolutely no pace given to Poonia and very good thinking by Dube
18.4 Shivam Dube to Poonam Poonia, another slower ball! Just going over the stumps, a back of the hand ball with extra bounce which actually becomes a saviour for Poonia
