This turned out be an absolute no-contest in the end as the Sri Lankan Lions hammer Everest and hand them a demoralizing loss by a mammoth margin of 94 runs. While the Lions go to the top of the table with their second consecutive victory in as many matches played, Everest sink down to the bottom with another loss without taking any points from the encounter.
The run chase never got going at any point of the match, Everest kept on losing wickets at regular intervals and were unable to put up any kind of partnerships to challenge this massive total that was set up by the Lions. Only 3 batters got into the double-figures and in that too 28 was the highest individual score, well that is never going to get you close to a target of 177.
The bowling as well as the fielding was exceptional from the Sri Lankan Lions and they operated like the defending champions which they are. Every bowler barring Siriwardena got at least one wicket but the more impressive fact was that none of the five bowlers went for more than 8.5 runs an over in their quota. That has to be the game when defending any sort of score leave alone what they were defending today. They had plans in place and they stuck to it and got results.
