That brings us to the end of the coverage for the first match of the Abu Dhabi T10 today. Stay tuned on Sportskeeda and enjoy the matches coming up. This is Probuddha Bhattacharjee, signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Lavil from this game.
Kieron Pollard (Captain, New York Strikers): Full credit to the boys. We would have liked to chase the target within 5-6 overs but in the end, we get the two points and win the game. We lost wickets early on but credit to the batters for sticking around and ensuring a win.
Mohammad Amir (man of the match for 4/7 and run out, New York Strikers): As a bowler, if you are getting swings that's the best feeling. You need to stick to the basics when you are getting help on offer. The white ball game has been favouring the batters but this format favours the bowlers. As a bowling unit, we are doing well and sticking together.
Match summary:
New York Strikers win by five wickets Jason Roy 18(16) | Mohammad Amir 4/7 (2) Asif Ali 23*(13) | Sam Cook 2/15 (2)
The target was not a big one for the New York Strikers but they made a terrible start to the chase. The Braves picked up two wickets in the first over and had them under pressure.
From 2 for 1, Muhammad Waseem and Mark Deyal started to stabilize the innings. It looked like Waseem would carry the team past the target. He looked set for a match-winning knock but gave away his wicket at the wrong time.
After this Asif Ali, took the initiative to bat positively and guide the team towards victory. Mark Deyal was playing the role of an anchor at the other scoring a run a ball. But Deyal failed to stay there till the end. Even though they lost one more wicket, the target was never enough to give the Strikers a real challenge.
Asif Ali stayed till the end and took the team home along with the skipper, Kieron Pollard. The Strikers won the match with five wickets in hand and nine balls left in the match.
8.3 Obed McCoy to Kieron Pollard, FOUR! GAME, SET AND MATCH FOR NEW YORK STRIKERS! Full-length delivery outside the off stump, Pollard squeezes that one past short third and the ball races away to the boundary for a four to end the chase. New York Strikers win the match by 5 wickets, add another win to their streak and knock The Chennai Braves out of the competition!
8.2 Obed McCoy to Kieron Pollard, length delivery outside the off stump. Pollard has a play and a miss. No run
8.1 Obed McCoy to Kieron Pollard, full-length delivery outside the off stump. Pollard goes for the straight drive but gets a thickish edge that the man at short third can stop that one successfully. The pair take a brace
Obed McCoy [1.0-0-12-0] is back into the attack.
So the Strikers now need 6 runs from two overs. Kieron Pollard will be looking to finish things off in the next over itself and give a boost to their net run rate.
