Karnataka beat Tripura by 29 runs, pocket six points.
Karnataka managed to avoid an upset and took home six points courtesy a 29-run win over Tripura in Agartala. Despite Ganesh Satish falling for 22 and captain Wriddhiman Saha run out for a duck, the hosts were always in the chase thanks to Sudip Chatterjee. Wickets tumbled at regular intervals but Chatterjee continued to keep the hopes alive for Tripura, who were reduced to 138/9. Eventually though, he was run out by Ravikumar Samarth and his valiant 82 went in vain. For the visitors, Vidwath Kaverappa snagged four wickets and Vijaykumar Vyshak bagged three as Karnataka returned to winning ways at a crucial juncture.
Stumps on Day 3 - Tripura 59/3 in the 2nd innings, require another 134 runs to win.
An exciting finish is on the cards between Tripura and Karnataka. While the hosts conceded a lead of 41, their bowlers, led once again by Manisankar Murasingh and Rana Dutta, steamrolled Karnataka for 151 in the second innings. Kishan Bedare (42) and Sharath Srinivas (48) were the standout batters for the visitors and Tripura, in pursuit of 193, ended the day on 59/3. Sudip Chatterjee (26*) and ex-Karnataka veteran Ganesh Satish (3*) are the overnight batters who will look to pull off a famous upset on Day 4. Can Karnataka's famed fast-bowling attack avoid that though?
Stumps on Day 2 - Tripura 198/9, trail Karnataka by 42 runs in the 1st innings.
Manisankar Murasingh picked up the final two wickets early on the second morning as Karnataka failed to add to their overnight score of 241/8. Thereafter though, it was the V Koushik show as he rocked the hosts' top-order to vault Karnataka back into the contest. Opener Bishal Ghosh (44) put in a vigilant performance even as Tripura sunk to 37/4 although his dismissal as well as that of Wriddhiman Saha then put the onus on Bikramjit Debnath (57*) and Murasingh (39) to defy the Karnataka attack. With just one wicket in hand and first innings parity 42 runs away, it's onto Debnath to frustrate the visitors further tomorrow morning.
Stumps on Day 1 - Karnataka 241/8 in the 1st innings.
Tripura gave Karnataka a rude shock to reduce them to a perilous 164/7 at the Maharaja Bir Bikram College Stadium in Agartala. It took an unbeaten 50 from Vijaykumar Vyshak to save the visitors the blushes as Karnataka finished the opening day on 241/8 in this fourth round contest. Tripura's seamers showed the way after they opted to bowl first, reducing Karnataka to 16/3 before half-centuries from skipper Mayank Agarwal (51) and debutant Kishan Bedare (62). After yet another collapse, it was onto Vyshak to bail the team out. Can he take the team to a score of 275 if not more on the second morning?
