For now, this is Rajarshi Das, signing off on behalf of Pragadeesh Shanmugan. Good night!
Harmeet Singh is the Player Of The Match! Here's what he has to say: Great feeling, it's our home ground, always an advantage. Our aim was to take that advantage and not make Bangladesh feel we are a walkover. The way cricket is going nowadays, 12 an over is still within reach. I backed myself giving a couple of balls, there was wind on the other side, and there was a bowler short. my calculation was someone has to bowl against the wind. The aim was to stay in hunt till the last over. When it came down to taking their best bowler on, we did pretty well. Corey brings in a lot of experience, having played in a lot of World Cups and big games. He knows how to stay calm under pressure and win big games. He's helped us a lot, and we look up to him.
Monank Patel (United States of America Captain): Really happy the way we played, winning the toss and bowling first. Credit goes to our spinners the way they utilized the conditions, bowled in the right areas and gave us the opportunity to chase a target. They gave us crucial wickets at intervals. The way we started with the bat, we were in the game the first 8 overs. Lost a few wickets in between. We played a few dot balls, that's where we need to improve. Our aim was to take the game deep, credit to Harmeet and Corey. We want to carry the positives, make sure we don't repeat the mistakes and carry on strongly.
Najmul Hossain Shanto (Bangladesh Captain) - I think we didn't bat well. We started off well but lost wicket in the middle and we are 20 runs short. I thought we as batters can come back. All the spinners bowled really well and I think the last three overs the seamers didn't execute their lengths but they will come back stronger next game
Match summary:
United States of America win by 5 wickets with 3 balls to spare
Corey Anderson 34*(25) | Steven Taylor 2/9 (3) Towhid Hridoy 58(47) | Mustafizur Rahman 2/41 (4)
It's not every day that one gets to see such scenes! The United States of America were always in the game - there were doubts whether their middle and lower order would have stood the test of pulling through after Mustafizur dismissed the well-set Steven Taylor. While USA's hopes of winning this contest laid firmly on Corey Anderson, it was Harmeet Singh - with the bat - who stole the show towards the end!
Steven Taylor and Monank Patel got USA off to a steady start. USA had 27 on the board halfway into the powerplay before a moment of misfortune saw Monank being run out. Taylor coasted along nicely in the company of Andries Gous, but as was the case in the Bangladesh innings, the boundaries began drying up closer to the halfway mark.
A couple of wickets from Mustafizur in the 12th over shoved USA onto their back foot. Nitish Kumar was looking good in between, but having rushed onto a short ball by Shoriful, he spooned a simple catch to Hridoy at mid wicket. Corey Anderson was then joined by Harmeet Singh, and with four overs to go and with some of Bangladesh's best bowlers yet to bowl out, the going was looking tough for the hosts.
A couple of towering sixes from Harmeet Singh off Mustafizur helped break the shackles. Harmeet, having found some impetus, continued taking on the bowling and succeeded. Anderson then joined in the act, and with 2 required off 4, it was only fitting that Harmeet hit the winning runs. Presentations coming up in a bit...
Screams of joy from Harmeet Singh, and we have an upset right before the T20 World Cup! Bangladesh have been beaten by the United States of America in a T20 International!
19.3 Mahmudullah to Harmeet Singh, FOUR! USA TAKE A SERIES LEAD! This is an impressive victory by the hosts. Anderson and Harmeet not only bailed the team out but showcased their finishing skills with brilliant shot-making towards the end to get the team over the line. Harmeet waits for the length delivery and lifts it over extra cover for a boundary
19.2 Mahmudullah to Corey Anderson, short of a length, pulled flat to long-on and the fielder collects it on the bounce
Three off five....
19.1 Mahmudullah to Corey Anderson, SIX! It's a big gamble to give the last over to the offie and Anderson dispatches the flighted delivery over long-on. It's a nothing delivery and it ends in the slot, Anderson with a big forward reach sends this over long-on
