Vidarbha beat Karnataka by 127 runs, qualify for the semifinals.
Despite a spirited comeback on Day 4 led by Vidwath Kaverappa's 6/61, Karnataka's batting lineup came apart appallingly on Day 5 as they succumbed to a 127-run defeat at the hands of Vidarbha. Having bowled the hosts out for 196 in the second innings, the visitors were in with a shout as they were set a target of 371. An opening stand of 101 between skipper Mayank Agarwal (70) and Ravikumar Samarth (40) only swelled those chances but on the fifth morning, too many soft dismissals and a couple of needless run outs saw them crash down. Harsh Dubey and Aditya Sarwate bagged four wickets apiece as Karnataka were bundled out for 243. Vidarbha will now take on Madhya Pradesh in the first semifinal.
Stumps on Day 3 - Vidarbha 50/0, lead Karnataka by 224 runs in the 2nd innings.
Yash Thakur and Aditya Sarvate bagged three wickets apiece to trigger a collapse as Karnataka sunk from 251/5 to 286 all out. In the process, Vidarbha secured a humongous first innings lead of 174 that may have just allowed them to place one foot in the semifinals. While Nikin Jose top scored with a defiant 82, Hardik Raj (23), Sharath Srinivas (29) and Vijaykumar Vyshak (23) failed to convert their starts. In response, Vidarbha got off to a steady start with the bat thanks to Atharva Taide (21*) and Dhruv Shorey (29*). Karnataka need a miraculous bowling display tomorrow morning to bring this game back to life and keep their hopes of qualifying alive.
Stumps on Day 2 - Karnataka 98/2, trail Vidarbha by 362 runs in the 1st innings.
Karun Nair (90) showed the way against his former team as Vidarbha posted a healthy first innings total of 460, with the lower order chipping in with useful contributions to frustrate Karnataka. In response, skipper Mayank Agarwal fell for a two-ball duck but Ravikumar Samarth (43*) and Aneesh KV (34) shared a healthy partnership of 59 before the latter perished. Vice-captain Nikin Jose (20*) and Samarth now have to share a massive partnership to power Karnataka forward as they resume their pursuit of a lead tomorrow morning.
Stumps on Day 1 - Vidarbha 261/3 in the 1st innings.
An attritional day's play has placed hosts Vidarbha on top in Nagpur, thanks to Atharva Taide's 109 and Yash Rathod's 93. It was hard work for the Karnataka bowlers who need to turn up inspired on the second morning to run through the rest of the batting lineup. Their own former player Karun Nair (30*) is batting alongside skipper Akshay Wadkar (2*) for Vidarbha, who will look to bat once and bat big.
