Justin Gaethje is a former Arizona state champion and NCAA Division 1 All-American in wrestling. His background in combat sports propelled him into the UFC, where he's become known as an aggressive, stand-up fighter. Coming off a title loss against Khabib Nurmagomedov in UFC 254, Gaethje took on Dustin Poirier for the symbolic BMF title on July 29, 2023. He won the fight by a second-round KO.

Who is Justin Gaethje's twin brother?

Marcus Gaethje is Justin Gaethje's twin brother. Justin has undoubtedly made it to the top of the fighting world. No fighter, however, can do so alone. Behind every UFC champion is a team of coaches, assistants, and cornermen. In Justin's case, one of his cornermen is his twin brother, Marcus Gaethje.

Marcus, Justin's twin, has always been his brother's biggest hype man. Both of them were inseparable in their childhood. They played high school football together in Arizona and were a force to be reckoned with. In their football days, Justin was a Quarterback and strong safety, and Marcus was a tight end and middle linebacker.

According to Marcus, football was always Justin's passion before college, with the latter even wanting to play in the NFL. Justin has said that he wanted to be an NFL player but was never big enough. It wasn't till wrestling in college that he even considered fighting. In an interview with TMZ Sports, Marcus said: "He met one of those wrestling coaches that was kind of in the fight game, and he brought some UFC fighters to the wrestling [gym], and I think that's when he made the decision that he wanted to at least try fighting."

It was after this incident that Justin moved to fight, and Marcus went with him, both as a cornerman and as emotional support. The pair are pretty close, and Marcus is always with his brother before, during, and after fights. According to him, he always feels nervous for his brother before fights, even though Justin never is.

When talking about Justin's pre-fight jitters, Marcus said, "You know, what I hate the most is that I get nervous, and he doesn't. Like before, in the back of the room before we walk out, all of his coaches are nervous wrecks, and he's back there goofing around, having fun, punching us. Like, dude, you're supposed to be nervous; you're about to get into a fistfight. He never does. I've honestly never seen him get nervous before a fight. He's always the calm one out of the group."

He's also spoken about the sensation of being in his brother's corner, saying, "Being in the corner is totally different now because he's no fan, so the atmosphere is completely different. But it's fun. It's really fun being in the corner."

Justin is the first big-name athlete to come out of his town of Safford, AZ, a small town with a population of around 10,000. Marcus has gone on record talking about the pride he feels for his brother. "You would never think that this was possible for someone coming from our town [to make it big] ... and then it is my brother? It's kind of cool."

Marcus has said in the past that he's extremely proud of his brother's success and looks forward to being in his corner for his next fight, whenever it may be.
