Brock Purdy

Brock Richard Purdy is the current starting quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers franchise. Only in his second year in the NFL, Purdy has quickly taken the league by storm and has been a phenomenal find for the five-time Super Bowl Champions. The last pick in the 2022 NFL Draft has gotten off to a great start by winning all of his five regular season games in 2022 after he was thrust into action due to injuries to Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo, both of whom were ahead of him in the pecking order at the time. Brock Purdy Early Life

Purdy was born on December 27, 1999 in the city of Queen Creek, Arizona, which is a suburb of Phoenix. Born to parents Shawn and Carrie Purdy as the middle child of three, Brock has an older sister and a younger brother. Attending Perry High School in Arizona, he compiled a 27-13 record and became Arizona’s Gatorade Player of the Year in his senior season.

As per Preston Jones, one of his high school football coaches, Purdy had the ability to rally his teammates and get guys to listen to him. He showed natural leadership qualities, something very important in the quarterback position. After being seen as a three-star prospect, the 23 year-old committed his college career to Iowa State where he would spend the next four years perfecting his craft.

Playing for the Iowa State Cyclones football team, Purdy continued to develop and mature his game over the course of the next four years. His Iowa State football coach Matt Campbell stated that Brock was a complete team player and never bothered about school or individual records. He has the unique ability to do what is best for the team and that is pretty much all he cares about.

He started his college football career as a third-string quarterback in his freshman year but very soon found himself in the thick of things starting eight games as the two quarterbacks above him got injured and had poor showing respectively. He put up over 12,000 passing yards and 81 passing touchdowns as against only 33 interceptions in four years at Iowa State. He also added 19 rushing touchdowns to go along with over 1,000 rushing yards. The Cyclones football team had four consecutive winning seasons for the first time in their history which was in large part due to the contributions of Purdy.

Brock Purdy was born as the second child in the family of five. His father Shawn Purdy was also into sports as he played minor league baseball for eight seasons. It seems that his sporting prowess has trickled down to his kids as well, especially with Brock reaching the biggest stage gridiron football has to offer. Both of Brock’s parents are extremely grateful for the opportunity their son has received and have been a strong pillar of support for him throughout his journey thus far.

Shawn Purdy who was a minor league pitcher is from Saint Cloud, Florida. Currently living in Queen Creek, Arizona, he studied Communications at the University of Miami as per his Facebook bio. After his baseball career came to an end, he became the owner of Fantastic Pools & Spa's LLC.

Speaking to Sports Spectrum earlier in 2023 about his son Brock, the senior Purdy said that his son had always had to prove himself and he just wanted him to get his chance during the draft and that the family was very relieved when it finally came. Being a professional sportsman himself, Shawn was able to help his son navigate his rookie year in the league and just help keep him calm at all times.

He further added that they wouldn’t talk too much about life in the big leagues to avoid any added pressure. However, he did say that he would just encourage his second born to play his game on his terms.

Needless to say Brock’s mother, Carrie Purdy, is equally passionate about her son’s football journey. His mother is originally from Lake Forest, California as is mentioned on her Facebook profile. At present, she is the V.P. at Fantastic Pools & Spas, LLC which is owned by her and her husband Shawn.

On the Sports Spectrum interview earlier this year, Carrie confessed that she is the biggest cheerleader of her son. She has been a constant and unwavering support system for all her kids. Now that one of her sons is in the NFL while her youngest one is playing college football, she is very busy going to their games and just enjoying the success of her children.

Brock Purdy Siblings

Brock is the middle child and has an older sister named Whitney and his younger brother is Chubba. Whitney used to play softball at Southeastern University and was pretty good at it. When they were children, Whitney would be able to throw farther than Brock which would frustrate her younger brother.

On the other hand, Chubba is 22 years old and plays college football as a quarterback for the Nebraska Cornhuskers. He also attended Perry High School just like his brother and was his backup for the first two years. However, he put up great numbers in his junior and senior seasons as he had over 9,000 passing yards and 111 touchdowns.

At the end of his high school career, Chubba attended Florida State University for his first two years and then transferred to the University of Nebraska which is where he is at the moment.

Brock Purdy Fiancée

The current 49ers starting quarterback recently got engaged to Jenna Brandt. She was also a student-athlete at Iowa State University where she played on their volleyball team as the setter. In 2021 she transferred to the University of Northern Iowa but her relationship with Brock was still going strong.

Brandt comes from a very close family and is one of four siblings. Her parents are Kevin and Amy Brandt and her siblings are Kaylyn, Isaiah and Morgan. For Jenna, spending quality time with her parents and siblings is what she enjoys the most and her decision to attend Iowa State University was also made on the basis of being around her siblings.

While Purdy and Brandt had been seen publicly before, they first announced themselves as a couple on Instagram in November 2022. Jenna is a huge supporter of her soon-to-be husband and is seen regularly attending his games wearing the 49ers colors. In July 2023, Brock proposed to his college sweetheart and the couple are now enjoying the next phase of their lives together.

The story of Brock Purdy is a very unusual one as it is a very rare one. Purdy was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers with the last pick of the 2022 draft making him last year’s Mr. Irrelevant. The Mr. Irrelevant title is given to each year's final pick in the NFL and it has been given importance to make the drafted player feel just as important as all the other players who have been selected ahead of him.

Until Brock Purdy was thrust into action last year and until he was shown on the biggest stage of the game, most of the previous Mr Irrelevants never made as much of an impact on the game.
