Deebo Samuel Draft
Samuel was drafted in the 2019 NFL Draft. He was selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the second round with the 36th overall pick. After spending five years in college, redshirting his true freshman year, Samuel proved that he could be a capable receiver and a decent running back if the need came.
With a good performance in the 2019 NFL Combine, his draft stock was more than worthy of a round-two selection. The 49ers have been able to use him in different roles adding more creativity to their offense. Overall, even though he hasn’t had the big numbers like most of the other top-level receivers in the league, his productivity and team play has been substantial for San Francisco.
The 2019 NFL Draft also includes other notable players such as Kyler Murray, Nick Bosa, and Quinnen Williams as the top three draftees of the 2019 class as well as A.J. Brown, Miles Sanders, DK Metcalf, Maxx Crosby, and more.
Deebo Samuel College
After going to Chapman High School in his hometown of Inman, South Carolina, Samuel decided to go to the University of South Carolina for his higher education and to play football for the South Carolina Gamecocks football team. He redshirted his true freshman year before taking the field in 2015.
In 2015 he got to play in only 5 games as he suffered a hamstring injury in the very first game of the season. He had a much better sophomore season though as he played in ten games and led his team with 59 receptions for 783 yards. He also carried the ball 15 times for 98 yards and had six rushing touchdowns.
In his junior season, he got off to a blistering start. In the first two games, Samuel returned kickoffs for touchdowns. Within the first three games, he also had 1 rushing touchdown, 3 receiving touchdowns and 250 receiving yards. Unfortunately though, before he could finish the third game he suffered another major injury and was done for the season.
In 2018, Samuel decided to return to college for his senior year and it proved to be an excellent decision. He played in 12 games, had 882 receiving yards from 62 catches that included 11 touchdowns. He would eventually finish his college career with over 2,000 receiving yards, and 16 receiving touchdowns. He also had 7 rushing touchdowns, over 1,200 kick return yards, and 4 return touchdowns.
