He was an Alabama 6A Second-Team All-State selection and was selected to the Coastal Alabama First-team, as a junior. His play improved as a senior and he made the Super All-State Team while also earning Offensive MVP for the All-Coastal Alabama Team.
Due to his versatility, Toney was a wanted man. After offers from South Carolina, Georgia Tech, and South Alabama, he eventually chose the offer from Florida, joining the Gators.
Through his freshman, sophomore, and junior years, Toney’s versatility was on full display, as he logged minutes at WR, RB, QB, and special teams.
However, he found his niche as a senior in 2020. The leader of a potent Gators offense, he caught 70 receptions for 984 yards along with 10 touchdowns. His stats as a runner and returner were amazing, leading to him being named Second-Team All-American as an all-purpose player. The SEC coaches named him First-Team All-Conference, and he also ended up as a finalist for the Paul Hornung Award, typically reserved for the most versatile player in college football.

Kadarius Toney NFL Draft
The New York Giants took a swing by drafting him 20th overall in the 2021 NFL Draft. Toney was in consideration for the late first to early second round. While his profile claimed that he played bigger than his size, his inexperience due to injuries was a major cause for concern. Regardless, he was projected to eventually be an asset to the team.
Kadarius Toney NFL Journey
Toney is extremely early in his NFL career. Having played just two seasons on two separate teams, one would think his impact would be minimal.
However, in just two seasons he’s solidified himself among the WRs of the league. Further, he is a key component of an elite Kansas City Chiefs offense.
While his career started slow, he soon picked up pace starting from Week 4. However, his short temper landed him in trouble multiple times throughout his rookie campaign. Even though he missed a significant amount of time due to COVID-19 protocols, Toney finished second on the Giants’ roster for receiving yards. However, he was yet to record a single touchdown.
In year 2, he was traded to the Kansas City Chiefs. While his regular season numbers were pedestrian, every fan in Kansas City owed their Super Bowl to Toney. During the matchup for the Vince Lombardi trophy, Toney was excellent, with an NFL-record punt return, and a sublime touchdown.
The New York Giants took a big swing for Kadarius Toney. Coming out of college, his small size and injury concerns had left question marks on his prospects. While he was projected to be a late first or early second-round pick, the Giants selected Toney with the 20th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. He signed a four-year, $13.7 million contract with the team, on June 4, 2021. But, he had to miss the start of training camp, as a result of COVID-19 and was placed on the reserve list.
His career started off slow, as he recorded just four receptions through his first three games. Week 4 saw a shift in fortunes. With 6 catches and 78 yards, Toney propelled the team to a 27-21 overtime win. The next week was even better. He recorded 10 catches for 189 yards, breaking the Giants' receiving yards record for a rookie. However, the game is famously remembered for his ejection for punching Damontae Kazee. However, the injury concerns flared up again, as he missed four weeks due to an oblique injury. Moreover, he was placed on the COVID-19 reserve list again. As a result, he appeared in just 10 games. However, he managed to still be second on the Giants’ roster for receiving yards.
His second year started in a similarly slow fashion. He injured his hamstring in Week 2 and missed five games for the team. Before his trade to the Chiefs, the WR had recorded just two receptions for 0 yards. But then, luck changed.
The trade became official on October 27, 2022, with Toney headed to the Chiefs in exchange for a third and sixth-round pick in the 2023 Draft.
The change in scenery was immediately beneficial for Toney. Week 10 saw him score his first career NFL touchdown. For the season, he appeared in nine games, recording 16 receptions for 171 yards and two receiving touchdowns.
However, the 2022 season will be best remembered by Toney for his Super Bowl exploits. With the game teetering in the balance, he took off. Completing a 65-yard punt return in a close fourth quarter, Toney set the record for the longest pun return in Super Bowl history, overthrowing Jordan Norwood’s 61-yard return 7 years prior.
But, the night wasn’t over for Toney. At the tail end of the game, he caught a touchdown that put the Chiefs ahead for the first time all night. Eventually, he and the Chiefs beat the Philadelphia Eagles, 38-35.
