Shane Lowry's Early Life and Background

Shane Lowry is a professional golfer who plays on both the PGA and European Tours. He was born on April 2, 1987, in Mullingar, County Westmeath, Republic of Ireland. However, he was raised in Clara, in the county of Offaly. His father, Brendan Lowry, was the winning player for Offaly in the 1982 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship.

As his golf career progressed, Lowry remained close to Offaly, saying in 2021 that if he still had time to watch Offaly play at O'Connor Park, he would go and be the first to leave if they lost.

Lowry won the 2007 Irish Amateur Close Championship, defeating Niall Turner 4-3 in the final. He participated in the Irish teams that were formed from the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, and they won the European Amateur Team Championship in 2007 and 2008; he was on the same team as Rory McIlroy.

In May 2009, he defeated Robert Rock on the third hole in a sudden death playoff to win the Irish Open at the European Tour while still an amateur. After Pablo Martín in 2007 and Danny Lee earlier in the 2009 season, he became the third amateur to win on the European Tour with this victory on his tour debut.
