Gael MSebastian Monfils is a professional French tennis player, who achieved a career-high singles ranking of No. 6 in November 2016. He has won 13 ATP titles including the Washington Open and Rotterdam Open, both ATP 500 events. As of March 2025, Monfils' singles record stands at 579–339, and he holds a record of winning 46 matches in 2010, which is his personal best. Some of his best wins include wins over then-ranked No. 1 Rafael Nadal at the 2009 Doha Open and Daniil Medvedev at the 2022 Indian Wells. Monfils' best Grand Slam result came at the 2008 Roland Garros and the 2016 US Open, where he reached the semifinals. Gael Monfils is also a crowd favorite and is often referred to as the "People's Champ."

At the onset of 2025, Monfils won the ASB Classic overpowering Zizou Bergs in the finals by 6-3, 6-4, thus becoming the oldest men's singles champion since 43-year-old Ken Rosewall at the 1977 Hong Kong Open. He advanced to the fourth round of the 2024 Indian Well Masters and the 2024 Estoril Open, losing to Casper Ruud and Marton Fucsovics respectively. Monfils advanced to the semifinal of the 2024 Qatar Open, where he was defeated by Jakub Mensik despite winning one set.
