That brings us to the end of this contest with Australia Women hammering their Indian counterparts and taking a 1-0 lead in this 3-match series. The second match is at the Allan Border field again, on Sunday but that will be a day game. We will be there to bring you all the live action but for now this is Sourabh taking your leave on behalf of Soumarya and the entire team. Good bye!
Tahila McGrath( Australia Women Captain)- "It was important to start the series with a win. The bowlers were unbelievable and the fielding was outstanding. It's nice when the plans come off and the bowlers executed it well. Voll showed some great composure and confidence. She is a special talent and she showed that from ball one. Chasing a low total is tricky and it was a tough wicket to bat on. "
Harmanpreet Kaur (India Women captain): We bowled really well today. Even though there was not a decent total on the boarsd but really happy to take 5 wickets. Few of us got starts in our batting but we were not able to carry on, we work on that, getting partnerships but apart from that we were there. It was the first game and we know the conditions now, we will play the next match on the same wicket. We will have a score in mind the next time, if we bat first have clear plans and then come out with a positive approach
Megan Schutt (Australia Women)- " The bowlers did really well. I was a bit wayward early but I was able to get in those wickets towards the later parts. It's great to get a five wicket haul and wrap up this game really quickly. The feeling in the change room has been really good. We will look to recover. Maybe an ice bath and some good food but will look to enjoy the weather in particular. Hopefully we will have a good turn out in the next game just like we had some good support tonight. "
18:39 Local Time (14:09 IST): Australia Women win by 5 wickets with 33.4 overs remaining
A comprehensive victory would be an understatement, Australia Women have blown the Indian Women out of water, they win the first ODI of the 3-match series with 202 balls remaining, yes you read that right, 202 out of 300 balls remaining.
100 was never going to be a total that would trouble the Aussies and in the end it proved to be exactly that. A 48-run brisk opening stand between Litchfield and Voll removed any iota of doubts, if there was any. Litchfield was cautious to start with but incredibly went up the gears and hit 6 boundaries of 6 balls across two overs before going foe the seventh and finding Harman at mid-off.
The Indians did come out of the match with some positives. Renuka got 3 wickets with her seam bowling as Aussies slipped from 48/0 to 52/3 losing Litchfield, Perry and Mooney. Leg-spinner Priya Mishra impressed one and all with her leg-break and googlies and ended up with two wickets in two overs towards the end and showed signs of a bright future.
If Priya Mishra showed signs of a bright future for India, it was debutant Georgia Voll for Australia who had a brilliant first outing with the bat. After the 48-run opening stand, she saw wickets tumbling from the other end but stood her ground from her end knowing that the target was 101. In the end, she remained not-out and saw Aussies over the line with a 46*.
17.0
16.2 Titas Sadhu to Tahlia McGrath, FOURRRRR! AND THAT WILL BE ALL! AUSTRALIA WOMEN WIN THE FIRST WODI BY 5 WICKETS! It was overpitched and outside the line of off stump. McGrath threw her hands at it and she slashed it away through the wide gully region for a boundary to clinch the first game of the series for her side.
16.1 Titas Sadhu to Georgia Voll, bowled full and outside the line of off stump. Voll steers it past the backward point region for a single.
Titas Sadhu [4.0-0-22-0] comes back into the attack
India have done well to pick up 5 Aussie wickets and they have forced Aussie skipper Tahlia to walk out, she kept sliding down the order before this but has eventually come out at 7.
