What a game of cricket. New Zealanders would have gotten a bit of Deja Vu when that went into the Super Over but well, this was Theekshana with the responsibility and he was in no mood to give more runs than needed. From the Sixers, it was Nabi who fought and fought but to no avail. His team now desperately needs to win the remaining two games. If they don't, this will be the one they'll regret losing the most. Well, that's our time, folks! This is Rudransh and Pradeep signing off. It's been a pleasure!
Niroshan Dickwella (Galle Marvels captain): I want to thank God for today and this win. We were always in the game. We knew that a run-out or a good catch will change the game. And the bowlers stepped up! Even when we were batting they bowled a lot of slower ones. And Alex batted really well, even though I still think we came a bit short.
Mohammad Nabi (Dambulla Sixers captain): It was a good game of cricket, we tried our best to win but it happens in the game. We threw the wickets away in the last over, the new batter found it difficult. Will try our best to win both the games.
Maheesh Theekshana is the Player of the Match! Here's what he has to say: It's all about experience, I've played a lot of T20s, conditions and the experience helped. I knew the wicket had plenty for spinners, kept wide throughout in the super over and it worked wonders for me.
End of the match!
Galle Marvels win in the Super-Over!
Alex Hales 38 (26) | Maheesh Theekshana (3/26) Reeza Hendricks 72 (57) | Mohammad Nabi (2/14)
A game of fine margins -- on the anniversary of the double super-over World Cup final. Talk about coincidences! A simply amazing game where no side wanted to give the other even an inch. The Sixers gave their all but it was that man -- Theekshana -- who kept pulling the game back into the other direction.
The first wicket fell early for the Sixers but then Hendricks and Zadran curated the best partnership of the match, making it look like this would be an easy chase. But once again, spin broke the game. Unlike the Sixers, the Marvels had a ton of part-time spinners to take care of the middle-overs and the Sixers let them build pressure on them.
The Marvels saved Theekshana's three overs for the death, which seemed like a poor move at first but it was made better with the Sixers' inability to attack the other bowlers. The pressure built before he even bowled his second over and Nadeeshan and Archchige had taken a couple of wickets. Nabi offset them though and gave a couple of sixes at the right moments to bring the game back to balance, with Hendricks batting through at the other end.
Then Theekshana ended up needing to defend eight off the last over against the second-best partnership of the match. That he did with absolute aplomb, getting Hendricks out first and keeping Nabi under leash. He inevitably bowled the Super-Over which was even better with two wickets and just three runs off the bat. Hales showed a bit of swagger to finish things off in style!
HALLLLLLLLLLESSSS! TAKE A BOW! This man, in the Super-Over, hits the winning shot -- and it's not just any winning shot -- it's a no-look six dripping with swagger! What an end to this stunning game. The Marvels' marvelous quality comes through against the odds!
0.4 Nuwan Thushara to Alex Hales, SIX! THAT IS IT! Marvels hold their nerve as they win the super-over! That is a sensational hit from Hales, no look shot. Length delivery, right in the slot and Hales dispatched it way over deep mid-wicket for a huge maximum to seal the game.
Just one off three needed! Scores are level.
0.3 Nuwan Thushara to Sahan Arachchige, slower one, almost outside the tramline. Arachchige moves across and guides it to short third, but takes the single.
0.2 Nuwan Thushara to Alex Hales, full on the pads, Hales whacked it to deep mid-wicket for just a single.
