Iconic scenes here at the Arun Jaitley Stadium as the Royal Challengers Bangalore Womens team receive the trophy! It has been an unbelievable tournament from their perspective and overall for Women's cricket. The viewerships and crowds have peaked throughout the tournament and surely this competition will go a long way to inspire young girls in India to pick up cricket as a sport! For now, it will be Smriti Mandhana, who will lead her side and her franchise into the dawn of a new era as they pick up their first ever trophy!
Smriti Mandhana, Royal Challengers Bangalore Women Captain- The feeling hasn't sunk in yet and I am really proud of the bunch. They were amazing as an unit and got us over the line yet again. The team started off well but we had a slump in the middle. We spoke about it and we treated every game as a knockout towards the end. We peaked at the right time towards the end and the last season taught us a lot of things. The management backed my ideas and they allowed me to build the team the way I wanted so a big thumbs up to them. For RCB, it's a lot more and we won this cup as an unit. For us to do this as a franchise is really special. This will be one of the best moments and only a world cup win can top this one off. I would like to thank the fans of RCB as they have been outstanding throughout the tournament and I would like to say that it's not "E sala cup namde" anymore, it's "E sala cup namdu" as we have won the trophy and everything is for our fanbase.
The RCB players and support staff will now receive the winners trophy for WPL 2024!
Meg Lanning, Delhi Capitals Women Captain - Obviously disappointed about tonight. We have played some good cricket throughout the tournament and we can be proud of our efforts. Crazy things happen in this tournament and full credit to RCB as they deserved to win. We have played some great cricket and there was a lot of effort from a lot of people that went behind the scenes. Would like to thank the support staff for their contribution. Will see how we go on from here.
The Delhi Capitals are now receiving their runners up medal!
The Most Valuable Player Award goes to Deepti Sharma! Here's what she has to say: I played my actual game, kept belief in myself with different shots at right occasions. Before the tournament, worked on drills on the off-side to improve the game, I played my shots on the off-side, I'm happy for that. Last season, wasn't getting much opportunity with the bat and this season I batted up the order too, I was able to contribute as well and feeling happy.
Ellyse Perry is the winner of the Orange Cap!
Shreyanka Patil wins the Purple Cap of the season with 13 wickets to her name!
Sanjeevan Sajana wins the catch of the season award! Jemimah Rodrigues collects the award on her behalf!
