From India's point of view, they will want to carry this momentum forward and get off to a flying start in a highly-anticipated fixture against cross-border rivals Pakistan. Historically, that's a fixture that has favoured the Men in Blue in terms of the World Cup. But in a match like this, you never know!
For Australia, though, it's time to go back to the drawing board and figure out what they need fix with it all on the line in just a few days' time. Grouped with the likes of defending champs West Indies and former champions in England, Australia would need to pick themselves up and bring their A-game if they are to make it to the final four in the tournament.
India started on the front foot, and haven't really looked back since. From the moment Ravichandran Ashwin picked up a couple of wickets in his very first over, you'd have backed the Indians to come away with this game. And deliver they did!
Be it Rohit's well-compiled 60 at the top of the order or Suryakumar Yadav's comfort playing all around the ground during his unbeaten 37, it's been a positive outing for the team that would have been hosts if not for these Covid-ravaged times.
But batting isn't all that Virat Kohli's (Rohit Sharma's for today though) men will feel positive about after this game. Ashwin's two aforementioned wickets, economical spells by Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Rahul Chahar and the potential second coming of a certain right-arm quick from years gone by as India's sixth bowler will all be seen as a positive for the Indian team ahead of an important World Cup campaign in their eyes.
As far as the Aussies are concerned though, they did have a couple of bright spots in what was mostly a disappointing performance from the team overall. Three bright spots (to be precise) that go by Steve Smith, Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis. Where Smith found a little touch with the bat to score an important, but slightly laboured, half-century, Maxwell went on to show off his full range of shots before being bowled over by Chahar for a pretty solid 28-ball 37.
The rearguard action from Stoinis at the back end of the innings that add 41 runs to the Aussie total will be largely encouraging in their quest for the one trophy that the team have not won in its storied history. They're going to have to do a lot better if they're to achieve their goals in this tournament though.
In the end, the Aussies were no match for a fantastic Indian performance as they comfortably chased down the 153-run target with 13 balls to spare and 18 wickets in hand.
India win by 8 wickets!
That's a fairly comfortable win in the end. That's that from the game. India will be more than happy to come away with a big win ahead of their first Super 12 fixture against arch-rivals Pakistan. And they do it with a couple of overs to spare as well!
