Commentary

India have won their second ICC title in just eight months and what a resounding performance it was. They didn't break a sweat to be honest while winning these five matches. They were tested at times and the conditions in Dubai certainly helped them in certain times but you can't take anything away from what they have achieved with relative ease in the end. They didn't have to travel to different places but that doesn't take away the ruthlessness with which they have performed. A massive win for the Men in Blue and hopefully both Virat Kohli and captain Rohit Sharma will continue to play in ODIs. For New Zealand, they should be very proud of what they managed to achieve in the tournament. India was always going to be difficult to conquer given their clinical performance all through the tournament. What a moment for India, it's about celebrating now for the Indian players and all the Indian fans around the world. It was a privilege covering the Champions Trophy final from the commentary box.

The tension was palpable not only in the ground but here in the comm box as well but the viewers made it easy for us with beautiful comments all through the match. Most of the team members are now posing with the trophy on the pitch. The photographs will keep getting clicked and none of the players will be tired today. The players have started dancing led by Shreyas Iyer. Remember Virat Kohli did the Gangnam Style after winning the 2013 CT. Now it's time for Shreyas Iyer and co. They are posing for the photographs with the champions hoarding infront of them.

It's time for Jay Shah to hand over the Champions Trophy to Rohit Sharma. The celebrations have begun and the champagnes go out. The celebrations will go on till late night. The players will now take turns to lift the trophy. What an achievement. What a moment for Team India. They broke the jink with the T20 World Cup in 2024 and now they have added one more in less than eight months.

The Indian players will now be presented with the white jackets which is a significant of the hard work India have put in all through the tournament. It started with Varun Chakravarthy and ends with the Indian captain Rohit Sharma. A massive moment for all the Indian cricket fans. This is a moment which the country which rejoice for a while.

Rohit Sharma (India captain): Firstly I want to appreciate everyone who came in and supported us. It's not our home ground but they made it our home ground. To get that result in the end was very satisfying. Not just this game but right from the beginning, our spinners from the start stuck to their plans. We do understand their strengths and played that to our advantage. In terms of bowling we were very consistent. Look again KL has a solid mind and doesn't get overawed. With his experience and class we want him to finish the game. He plays the right shot at the right time which allows the other batters to come and bat freely just like Hardik did. The way our batters played was quite brilliant through the tournament. Varun has got something different about him. When we are playing on a pitch like this, we want batters to force on him. He didn't start off but when he played against New Zealand and got five wickets we wanted to maximize his talent. He has great quality and luckily for us it came good at different times. Absolutely very very grateful, we really appreciate the support and getting behind the team. It may not be seen as useful as the game we played, they made it feel like home so it was great.

It's now time for the victorious Indian team to receive their medals.

Mitchell Santner (New Zealand captain): Yeah it's been a good tournament. It's been a challenge but we have grown as a group. We were beaten by a good side today but guys stepped up at different times and that is all you can ask from your players in a big tournament like this. It was good bowling. We lost a couple of wickets after powerplay and then they got the squeeze on. Credit to their spinners for how they bowled. All world class spinners. We had a total and we fought for it in the end. Phillips keeps doing this. The way Ro and Gill went about put us on the backfoot. Rohit just turned the game around but we chipped with some wickets to be in the game. I think we have seen how Rachin steps up in these major events. With the ball as well he has been brilliant. He has a massive future and even today, he put the pressure back on India and scored at run a ball with ease. It's been very enjoyable, made easier by the group. Different guys stepped up at different times which made my job easier. What they have put in the tournament is great. So close but it's been a superb tournament.

Time for the runners up to collect their memorabilia. They will collect the runners-up medal Roger Twose, a former New Zealand player and the Director of New Zealand cricket currently.
