It turned out to be a one sided contest but as commentators we never complain. Like always it was a pleasure bringing all the live coverage from this encounter. Keep following Sportskeeda for all the latest sporting action. T10 matches lined up for tomorrow. Do join us then but for now this is myself (Arya Sekhar Chakraborty) signing off also on behalf of my fellow commentator and good mate Rajarshi Das. Goodnight! Cheers!
Thisara Perera (Jaffna Kings captain): I am always smiling. Yeah first of all thank God for the batting form. As a bowling unit we did a great job. First few overs we gave away a few runs but came back strongly. In the earlier interview, I said that we have a superb batting line up. We needed a cushion and thats why Madushka was included. Always keep backing the players. I think we can do something special this year.
Babar Azam (Colombo Strikers captain): Yes we started well but in the middle overs we didn't capitalise on the start. Back to back wickets hurt us. When we started, we were looking for a score around 180. Me and Nissanka tried to build a partnership but unfortunately we both got out at the wrong time. We will learn from our mistakes and give confidence to everyone. Three matches still left and give 100 percent in those matches.
Dunith Wellalage is the Player of the Match. Here's what he has to say: I want to thank by skipper, Maheesh, Dilshan Madushanka, they gave me great support. I trust myself all the time and follow the basics, and try to handle the situation as well as I can.
Time for the post match presentation ceremony.
Jaffna Kings won by 6 wickets (with 33 deliveries to spare)
It turned out to be a rather one-sided contest as the Jaffna Kings made light work of the competitive score of 146 put by the Colombo Strikers and won it quite convincingly in the end by 6 wickets and with 33 deliveries to spare. The opening duo of Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Nishan Madushka got their side off to a flying start. Gurbaz in particular looked in exceptional touch and took the attack to the Colombo Strikers bowlers. He took a special liking to Mohammad Nawaz in the powerplay and smashed him all around the park.
It was a scintillating display until the introduction of Matheesha Pathirana brought about his departure. However, he had got the side off to a perfect start. His knock of 39 came in just 21 deliveries which included 3 fours and 3 sixes. Following his departure, it was his partner Madushka who took the onus on himself to find the boundaries. Charith Asalanka took his time but Madushka kept the charge going.
He used the feet to perfection and eventually fell just short of a well-deserved half-century. He scored 46 off 32 deliveries which included 3 fours and as many sixes. Thisara Perera came out in the middle at the fall of Asalanka'a wicket and struck a quickfire 17 off 7 deliveries. A couple of quick wickets took the game a bit deep but in the end, it was the duo of Towhid Hridoy and David Miller who took the side home with more than 5 overs to spare.
14.3 Naseem Shah to Towhid Hridoy, FOUR! That'll do! Jaffna Kings are home and dry with plenty of overs to spare! This was on a good length outside off stump, Hridoy simply opened the face of his blade and guided it past the gap at backward point. The ball rolled away to the ropes, uncontested by any fielder. It's the Kings who triumph, the margin of victory being 6 wickets!
14.2 Naseem Shah to Towhid Hridoy, hard length delivery on off stump, Hridoy, firmly behind the line, defended the ball back to the bowler
14.1 Naseem Shah to Towhid Hridoy, FOUR! The scores are level! Naseem went full this time, but got the line all wrong, straying down the leg side. Hridoy helped it past the left of the keeper with a faint tickle, and the ball raced away to the ropes!
14.1 Naseem Shah to Towhid Hridoy, wide, banged in short on middle stump, too short in fact, as the ball balloons over the head of the batter
