Brandon King (Jamaica Tallawahs captain): This is a new challenge for me. I have to give credit to the guys. We have experienced bowlers in our ranks which made my job that much easier. At the top of the innings I have an important role to play. Glad that all the plans worked out today. The guys are very experienced and I handled my troops based on the other information. It was too close to comfort but I am happy with the way Salman executed his plans. He was sure about what lengths to bowl.
Faf du Plessis (St Lucia Kings captain): I think if you look at the ground stage, 10 15 runs too many I felt. Credit to them, especially their spinners. If you look at their team, it is set up for them perfectly for the spinners. Green has bowled brilliantly. It wasn't that quick and bounce when we were bowling. their spinners changed the pace brilliantly. We know that some of the top 4 had to take responsibility. There are a few guys who played through the middle there in these conditions. Great to see Roston Chase bat like that as he is a very important player. How many catches went down today? No excuse for dropping that though. Should have taken that despite a tornado.
Brandon King (Player of the Match): I have a very important role at the top of the order and am very happy that I could contribute in the very first game of the tournament. Only as good as your last performance. I am feeling good at the crease at the moment. Everything comes naturally as if you are just reacting to the ball. Kirk is an exciting young talent. He recently made his Test debut and he will be a crucial component at the top of the order
It turned out to be a rather comprehensive victory for the Jamaica Tallawahs as they win the opening encounter against the St Lucia Kings by 11 runs to start the campaign on a positive note. Despite some blistering hitting from the likes of Roston Chase and Roshom Primus, the target proved to be way too much as Salman Irshad held his nerves and bowled a superb final over. Johnson Charles and Faf du Plessis started the innings and the intentions were clear from the former.
After smashing Mohammad Amir for a massive six, he got a couple of reprieves of the former Pakistan pacer but he couldn't quite seize the missed opportunity and was dismissed cheaply for 24 by Chris Green. Sean Williams also struggled his way to 26 of 22 before his departure of the bowling of Chris Green. It was the introduction of Roston Chase which helped the Kings up the ante. Sikandar Raza failed to find a flow to his innings and departed for just 4 runs. It was the partnership of Roston Chase and Roshom Primus which turned it around for the Kings and gave them significant hope of chasing this down.
Primus had to depart on the penultimate over but not before he had smashed Mohammad Amir for a couple of gigantic sizes. Roston Chase was also dismissed on the first delivery of the final over which was the final nail in the coffin for them. Imad Wasim was the wrecker-in-chief for the Tallawahs, bagging the prized wickets of Faf du Plessis, Sikandar Raza and Kimani Melius. Green and Saam Irshad also chipped in with a couple of wickets each.
