Christopher James Green is a South African-Australian cricketer. Green bowls right-arm off-break and bats right-handed, making him an All-rounder. He represents New South Wales and the Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash League. He also represents the Northern District Cricket Club in Sydney Grade cricket. Green made his Thunder debut in the final round of the BBL 2004. He made his international debut for Australia's cricket squad in December 2023.
Chris Green Domestic Career
The off-spinner and middle-order batsman, who hails from Sydney’s North Shore, made his Limited Overs debut for the Blues during the 2014/15 Matador BBQs One Day Cup when both Nathan Lyon and Stephen O’Keefe were on duty with the Test team.
He was again selected in the initial Blues squad for the 2015/16 tournament but was later omitted when the Australian players became available following the postponed Test tour to Bangladesh.
The off-spinning all-rounder has also established himself as one of world cricket's most in-demand T20 specialists. In November last year, Chris Green signed a deal spanning six years with the Big Bash League (BBL) franchise Sydney Thunder - the longest deal in BBL history.
His six-year commitment beat the five-year deal that Chris Lynn had signed with Brisbane Heat two years ago, which was then the longest. Green had first joined Thunder ahead of the fourth season of the BBL in 2014 and have backed him since.
He’s made his mark in the Pakistan Super League, Canada’s GT20 tournament, England’s Vitality Blast, the Caribbean Premier League, and Abu Dhabi’s T10 League. Chris Green is also the captain of Guyana Amazon Warriors in the CPL 2020.

Prior to the 2018 Caribbean Premier League, he was picked as one of five players to take note of. In June 2019, he was chosen to represent the Toronto Nationals franchise in the 2019 Global T20 Canada tournament.
Green earned a 90-day penalty for bowling with an illegal action, which began on January 8, 2020. Green was selected captain of the Guyana Amazon Warriors in July 2020, before the Caribbean Premier League season. Green starred for Middlesex in the 2021 T20 Blast in England, taking a hat-trick and five wickets. In July 2022, he joined with the Kandy Falcons for the third season of the Lanka Premier League. In November 2023, Green was chosen as the captain of the Sydney Thunder for the 2023-24 Big Bash League. Green was roped in by Lancashire Lightning for the 2024 T20 Blast competition.
Chris Green IPL Career
Following his T20 exploits across the world, the New South Wales cricketer was snaffled up by Kolkata Knight Riders in the 2020 IPL auction. He was picked up by KKR for his base price of Rs 20 lakh.
Since the start of last year's Big Bash, no one who has played as many games worldwide and has a better T20 economy rate than his 6.57, while he has conceded a mere 5.80 runs per over in the Powerplay, the phase in which he has become a specialist. Therefore KKR will be looking to use him alongside Sunil Narine judiciously.
However, he had a minor scare in January when he was banned by Cricket Australia for 90-days following some illegalities in his bowling action. But he has now been cleared to bowl again and will be plying his trade in the 13th season of the IPL.
