As the Bangladesh national team and their fans celebrate into the night, I, Rajarshi, along with my co-commentator, Prakhar, wish you a very good night. Bangladesh begin their Test series against South Africa on the 31st. Stay tuned to not miss our coverage on the same. Goodbye for now!
Tamim Iqbal, Bangladesh Captain: I'm a very proud man. Specially about the fact that a Bangladeshi fast bowler getting a 5-for, and getting the Man Of The Series, winning the series, I cannot ask for anything more. I have always told everybody thinks about spin when it comes to Bangladesh, but the fast bowling department has been brilliant in the last 2 years. So I thank all the coaches, and the previous coaches whoever worked with the fast bowlers, I think they did a fantastic job. For me, this (the series win) is massive, this is probably one of the biggest achievement in my career, in our career, we've got 3-4 seniors who have been playing for 15 years, I will rate this series at the top. It's a massive win. Secondly, this gives us a belief that when we tour overseas, it's not about only losing, we can win games, we can win series'. This win will give that confidence to the group. We take a lot of pride in our ODI cricket. we believe we have a very, very good side, there's no team in the world that we haven't beaten or won series. I think this is one format that we are very comfortable and we have been doing well for the last 5-6 years. The missing part was winning overseas, we did it in this series. For Shakib to come and play here was massive, specially with his two daughters, his mother and his mother-in-law all in the hospital, to still come and play for the country, shows the character of the man. He has been brilliant for us. I feel like I'm in Dhaka, to be very honest (on the support from the fans) they have been brilliant. As Russell, our head coach says, these are our 12th man of our team. Wherever we go, whether we win, lose, they are always there. I'm not the Test captain, but we would like to do well there as well. We did well against New Zealand, so we would like to do that here as well.
Temba Bavuma, South Africa captain: I think Bangladesh were the better outfit. They really showed us how to play with the ball as well as in the field, we saw in the last game here, as to how clinical were they with the bat They had the intensity. We have to go back to the drawing board, for we were outplayed in the series. The standards, the intensity with which we played against India was on another level, in this series we were nowhere close to that. Whether it was a matter of complacency, whether it was a matter of expecting things to happen, I'm not too sure. All I can simply say is that in this three match series, we were simply not good enough. I think guys individilaly will know where they are at (on the noise around the IPL) I can only judge in terms of what we did on field. I cannot use that as an excuse. All I can say is that we just weren't good enough on all three departments. We need the points to qualify for the World Cup. In the India series we took a couple of steps forward, we took a couple of steps back in this series. We still have games to get points, we're obviously not out of the World Cup. The most important thing is us really getting to understand our game and be consistent out there.
Taskin Ahmed, Player Of The Match, Player of The Series: I am feeling very happy and proud as well, this is the first time we won a series in South Africa. Great achievement for me, and also this is the first Man Of The Series award for me in International cricket. Actually, for the last one and a half or 2 yrs, I am following the same process, today I came with the same process, same mindset, executed it well, hope to do well in future as well. In every match my captain always supports me and he gives me a simple and clear role, fast and aggressive, trying to take wickets, and I have been following that. Definitely, I enjoyed a lot (bowling on such surfaces) when we arrived for the series, from then itself I was working on my length. I have been following the process, just the simple basics. It was great (to take 8 wickets at Centurion in two matches) but I still have to learn how to get 5 on flat and slow wickets.
South Africa, having won the toss, walked in to bat and raced off to a bright start, with 40 runs being scored in the first 6 overs. Mehidy Hasan broke through first, taking the crucial wicket of Quinton de Kock as the left-hander holed out to long-off. And then, it was Bangladesh's talisman this series, Taskin Ahmed who was introduced to the attack, and boy, did he bowl like a talismanic individual today. Pace, bounce, accuracy, movement, Taskin was absolutely lethal on the Supersport park wicket today. The right-arm pacer got Kyle Verreynne to drag on in his third over, and then got the all-important wicket of Janneman Malan, who tried to walk down the wicket, was beaten by the extra bounce and offered Mushfiqur Rahim the first of his four dismissals today. South Africa's emergency duo of Temba Bavuma and Rassie van der Dussen could not get the team out of the pit today, as the Proteas lost half their side for under a hundred within 20 overs. Miller, Pretorius and later on, Maharaj, chipped in with some runs, but that was nowhere near enough for the hosts, as Taskin Ahmed returned for a third spell in the 24th over and more or less wrapped up the innings all by himself, helping himself to a well-deserved five-wicket haul. Defending 155 was never going to be a simple task for the South African bowlers despite their reputations, and their pursuit in doing so was hampered severely due to some very ordinary line and length and the intent with which the Bangladesh openers came at them. Litton Das was dropped by Keshav Maharaj at point off the fourth ball of the over, and since then, the duo made merry, with the large section of the Bangladeshi crowd vociferously behind them. Skipper Tamim Iqbal led the way with some exquisite stroke-play, carting Rabada for four boundaries off the last over of the powerplay to take the game away. The duo kept playing their shots, a 100-run opening partnership was brought up, and it wasn't until Litton chipped a catch to Bavuma at cover off Maharaj did the South Africans manage a breakthrough. Shakib Al Hasan walked in, worked the ball around for a bit and eventually hit the winning runs, a steer to backward point for four.
And Bangladesh have done it! Jubilation on the banks, celebrations among the Bangladesh camp, and amidst all off this Shakib, having steered a delivery outside off off Rabada for four, calmly walks off the field along with his skipper and long-time teammate, Tamim Iqbal, having been offered congratulations from the South African fielders. First-ever series win for Bangladesh against South Africa at the Rainbow Nation across formats. 9 wickets being the margin of the series decider.
26.3 Kagiso Rabada to Shakib Al Hasan, WHAT A YEAR 2022 IS PROVING TO BE FOR BANGLADESH! After recording their first Test win in New Zealand, Bangladesh have registered their FIRST ODI SERIES WIN IN SOUTH AFRICA! Short and wide and Shakib stands tall to smash the ball through backward point for a boundary. Jubilation for Bangladesh.
26.2 Kagiso Rabada to Shakib Al Hasan, WIDE! Short ball spilled down the leg side.
26.2 Kagiso Rabada to Shakib Al Hasan, good length delivery around off stump. Shakib comes on the front foot and works the ball into the covers.
26.1 Kagiso Rabada to Shakib Al Hasan, good length delivery around off stump. Shakib hops to cut the ball. The ball takes an inside edge and moves into the covers.
