What a tournament we had. Finally we have found our new champions-the Guyana Amazon Warriors. The Trinbago Knight Riders were blown away by undoubtedly the best and the most consistent team of the tournament. A thoroughly convincing bowling performance was followed by sensible batting which saw them win by 9 wickets. It was a privilege for me to be part of Sportskeeda's commentary panel for cricket's biggest party. For now, this is myself (Arya Sekhar Chakraborty) biding you goodbye also on behalf of my fellow commentator and good mate Pragadeesh. Keep following Sportskeeda for all the latest sporting action.
Now it's time for the celebrations. Imran Tahir will now lift the trophy as his teammates starts the celebrations. The fireworks go out and the celebrations will go on late at night. What a performance from the Guyana Amazon Warriors. The party won't stop anytime soon.
Imran Tahir (Guyana Amazon Warriors captain): Yeah look it's beautiful. Its been a great experience playing for this beautiful franchise. I am grateful almighty. Everyone sent out messages about me becoming the captain and joked about it. That made me very strong. The trainers and the physios have done really well. Thanks to Ashwin from India. I am really really grateful for little things. I am very very proud. I told you this is one of the greatest achievements ever. I want to thank CPL. This is a very good competition. Playing here for 6 years, it has been given me lots. I just wanna thank every single one who supported us. Look, as I said you never gonna see these things. The backroom staff did a tremendous job. Result is not in our hand but we gelled as an unit. Despite not finding an opener, we are still the champions. They made my job easier. I want to congratulate them and their loved ones. I am very happy to become the first captain to win the tournament for the Amazon Warriors. Look I said we were more hungry than ever before. Even when we lost the first Qualfiier we kept faith in our team. The team belief was there Result is never guaranteed. Look I just wanna thank everyone. I wanna tell them that since I arrived it was my dream to win the competition. I am really grateful for the support (Tahir in tears). Thankyou>
Kieron Pollard (Trinbago Knight Riders captain): We didn't bat properly. Making 94 in the first innings of a final was never going to be enough. We were beaten by a better side and the most consistent side of the tournament. Just the belief and the fight. The way the guys fought till the end despite the injuries. Congratulations to them. Some days some teams deserve it more than you and I thought they deserved it more. They have played consistently all through thee tournament. The fans came out and supported them. I know our fans our disappointed but we still are four-time champions and have quite a few champions in the dressing room.
Shai Hope (Player of the Tournament) - We won and that's my focus. Probably the 100 was something to cherish and my aim was to contribute to the team to help them win matches and tournaments. The opportunity is valued here and this franchise feels like a family to me. They encouraged me and believed in me. Ayub is a quality player and I hope he continues to grow from strength to strength and find a place in the Pakistan team. (On the support) You were amazing and electrifying always and this one is for you
Dwaine Pretorius (Player of the Match) -I am not sure. Consistent length and a bit of swing. The whole team backed me and everyone could've been here as we bowled brilliantly. I don't know the magic formula but it went in my way today. Imran backed me to bowl in the powerplay and there are so many contributing factors to my success. This tournament just went my way
Saim Ayub: I am too excited. Our team was lovely and this is our gift to the fans. I am too excited, I don't know what to say.
Azam Khan: It's an unreal feeling playing at home. Guyana always has a special place in my heart. It means a lot. I have never won a tournament before so Guyana this is for you.
Shai Hope: It means everything. One focus and one goal we had and its a great feeling. As a batter its important to make your team win. Thanks for the support. They were with us during the losses in the finals and now its for them.
Keemo Paul: It means everything. I can't explain it now. Well the challenges were there. The masseur and physio has worked very hard to get me on the park. Imran bhai was all about staying together and keeping the team well.
Imran Tahir: This is a special feeling. I am really a proud man proud after. I love all the nation (Caribbean shores). Lots of people gave a lot of negative comments. Glad that I believed in myself and I am really happy. Love you everyone, thankyou CPL (an emotional Tahir)
Guyana Amazon Warriors won by 9 wickets (with 36 deliveries to spare)
The run chase of 95 was never going to challenge the Guyana Amazon Warriors and it exactly turned out the way it was expected. Saim Ayub and Shai Hope continued to display their class as the Warriors won by 9 wickets in the 15th over. It was Keemo Paul who was sent into open the innings. It was Ayub's 7th opening partner in the competition. The duo shared a 15 run stand as Keemo Paul got off to a good start with a couple of boundaries.
It was Akeal Hosein who brought about his departure. He timed it well but the elevation wasn't there and it was a straightforward catch for Kieron Pollard at mid off. It was Shai Hope who joined Ayub in the middle. Hope was sent early to counter the Sunil Narine threat and he did that with ease.
Narine bowled steady lines but neither of the batters went for big shots. They took their time initially and batted with composure. They didn't allow the pressure to build and found the boundaries just when required. Towards the end, it was Saim Ayub who turned it on with a flurry of big shots to take his home. Ayub smashed a six to get to his half century and also won the match in the process.
