That's it from this one. We will be back for more Super Smash action. Keep following Sportskeeda for more. Till next time, bye bye.
Peter Younghusband | Wellington skipper: It was a bit nervy for a while, Foxcroft with a special innings. Fortunately had a couple of overs with Mile and van Beek and with their experience, they did it. There was a lot of anxiety, lots of notes written down before the game. It was very exciting, a really mature innings and nice to see from Ravindra. We love the Wellington crowd and we could not have asked for more from them before Christmas day.
Hamish Rutherford | Otago skipper: We did a good job with the ball, we were well-placed during the death overs but we could not get the job done. First game and lots of positive signs. It wasn't quite to be. Guys fronting up with the ball, Foxy was excellent and a cameo from Johnson as well.
Rachin Ravindra | Player of the Match: Definitely a bit tacky, had more time than we think. The plan was to adapt and then we go. It is always great to have the support from the Wellington locals. Nice spectacle. If we take it deep, with the short boundary on one side we can target them.
Match result: Wellington won by 8 runs
Otago 144/7 (20)
Dean Foxcroft 73 | Milne 2/24
Wellington 152/8
Rachin Ravindra 67 | Michael Rae 3/13
Excellent death bowling from Adam Milne and Logan van Beek help Wellington scrape home by 8 runs.
Chasing 153, Otago lost their skipper early but Dale Phillips and Dean Foxcroft steadied the ship with a 76-run stand before the former was out.
The Wellington spinners Younghusband and Rachin Ravindra stifled the scoring rate and pushed the asking rate up with their accuracy in the middle overs.
Foxcroft opened out at the end but it was too late as Milne and van Beek kept their composure with good death bowling to close it out.
Foxcroft also was denied the strike in the last over and that proved crucial to Otago's hopes. But credit to Milne for nailing those yorkers in that last over.
Stay tuned for the post-mach presentation.
