Khamzat Chimaev, known as "The Borz," was born in Chechnya on May 1, 1994, and has emerged as one of the best mixed martial artists in the UFC roster. He initially pursued a career in amateur wrestling, transitioning to MMA after achieving success in freestyle wrestling. After competing in independent promotions for his first six professional fights, Chimaev joined the world's biggest MMA organization and swiftly gained recognition by winning two bouts in just ten days.

He attributed his move to Sweden to his brother Artur, who had already settled there for improved living conditions, initially visiting for medical reasons but ultimately choosing to make Sweden his permanent home. In October 2023, Chimaev voluntarily left Sweden and made U.A.E his new residence.

Chimaev’s journey in combat sports began at the young age of five, with wrestling. He achieved the honor of winning a bronze medal at the Russian National Championships during his junior years. At 23, he started on his path as a professional wrestler, training at the Allstar Training Center in Stockholm. In September 2017, he entered the world of amateur MMA fights, paving the way for his professional debut in May 2018.

Chimaev has won all six encounters inside the UFC octagon and holds a record of 12 wins and no losses (12-0-0), and he has been compared to 'The Eagle' Khabib Nurmagomedov because of his domination inside the octagon. Chimaev, like Nurmagomedov, largely relies on his wrestling and grappling background. It is safe to say that Chimaev prefers wrestling over other fighting styles, although he has displayed remarkable striking expertise in his fights. Chimaev showed his hand-striking skills by knocking out Gerald Meerschaert in just 17 seconds during his third UFC outing and going toe-to-toe for 3 rounds against Gilbert Burns.
