“Iron” Michael Chandler is a former Bellator lightweight champion who currently competes in the lightweight division of the UFC. Born on April 24, 1986, in High Ridge, Missouri, he started his professional MMA career in 2009 after being an All-American D1 wrestler at the University of Missouri. Known for his explosive power and relentless fighting style, Chandler has consistently delivered exciting fights and finishes, winning fans with his aggressive approach and knockout ability.

Much of Chandler's early career was spent in Bellator, where he picked up some notable wins and also became the lightweight champion on multiple occasions. In 2021, he made his highly anticipated UFC debut, defeating Dan Hooker via first-round knockout to position himself as an immediate title contender. Shortly after, he fought for the vacant UFC lightweight title but was knocked out by Charles Oliveira in the second round. Since then, he has fought in highly competitive battles against Justin Gaethje, Dustin Poirier, and Charles Oliveira. Chandler is scheduled to return to the octagon on April 12, 2025, to take on Paddy Pimblett at UFC 312.

Michael Chandler's family comprises his wife, Brie Willet; two adopted sons, Hap and Ace; and a recently born daughter, Dru Miller Chandler. The couple exchanged wedding vows in 2014. After marriage, Chandler and Brie adopted Hap in 2017, accepting the challenges and joys of parenthood. They had named their son after a former wrestling coach from Missouri, Hap Whitney. In April 2022, the couple welcomed their second adopted son, Ace. On March 31, 2025, their first biological child, Dru Miller Chandler, was born.

Michael Chandler’s Career Before UFC

Skipping an amateur career, Michael Chandler debuted in professional MMA in 2009 against Kyle Swadley achieving a TKO victory in the bout to start his career. He joined Strikeforce in November 2009, winning his first two bouts before moving to Bellator in 2010. Competing in both the welterweight and lightweight divisions, he quickly rose through the ranks, winning the Bellator Season Four Lightweight Tournament in 2011.

Chandler claimed the Bellator Lightweight World Championship by submitting Eddie Alvarez at Bellator 58. Following several title defenses and intense bouts, including a rematch loss to Alvarez and two battles with Will Brooks, Chandler reclaimed the lightweight title twice, securing his second reign in 2016 and third in 2018. His tenure at Bellator ended in August 2020 after numerous high-profile fights, including a knockout win over Benson Henderson. He then transitioned to the UFC, debuting in 2020.
